If the RAF were to get the F111 or similar at any point of time, they should have gone ahead with the TSR2.
The RAAF now has 16 F-18/F Super Hornets, is that the situation?
It has had its fair share of problems, but a lot of that was politics, with the party that did NOT order them being in power for 12 years and canning them at every opportunity to score political points. They still had their share of problems though. But they still are an effective submarine.
The Su-34 was commonly known as the PLATYPUS. Was this an attempt to make it attractive to Australia? I do believe it would make the best replacement for the F111, but I cant see us buying Russian.
Maybe it should be explained for some that the RAN stands for Royal Australian Navy, whereas RN stands for Royal Navy (British).
If we were to go with the US (again), by leasing the LA Class, what submarines does the US have to offer that we might ultimately buy?
Why would we need a loan of a Nuclear Sub, when we have personnel who have served on Nukes with the RN and USN (I presume)?
Ja Worsley, you have a Subject Study- RAN Future LCH, Subject Study -RAN Future OPC, Subject Study- RAN Future AOR, Subject Study= RAN Future FFG. Now how about starting a Subject Study – RAN Future Submarine (Collins Replacement)?
From memory I thought that design was for a 2’100 or 2’700t ship. Could be wrong though. It looked nothing like the LCS.
I would like to see the RAN get ships based on the Austal design that the USA used for their Littoral ships. The trimaran design I am talking about was open between the hulls.
If America is definitely not going to get any further F22’s than the 187 planned, then there is now nothing stopping them from selling F22’s to Japan, Israel, and Australia, that is if they still want and can afford them.
I wonder if Australia again showed interest in the Raptor, what price we would have it offered at? And Israel?
You are all wrong. The last 28 F35’s are going to be “C”s for our new carrier.
Seriously though, if Austar are going to build the MRC Corvettes, they will need to be re-designed to allow for heavier weapons fit. The current design does not appear to be well armed.
28 seems a lot of F35B’s, since we will only have the two Canberra Class. (Unless the RAAF want some of them for non sea use.) I would imagine that no more than 7 -8 would be on each Canberra, and maybe 4 for training etc..
The original article to me looks like a deliberate leak, so that when the actual savings are announced the public will say “Not as bad as I thought it was going to be”. This is a typical ploy used by governments here for years.
