Would the rafale be able to supercruise if fitted with the Snecma M88-3? (which I thought they would be producing by now)
Scooter, cant you see that YOU listed the F35C as one of the aforementioned planes that the F35B was going to be better than.
The problem is how much the expensive F35B will be really ‘good’ face to F18, F35C, Rafale or others Russian naval fighters?
To get back to the thread, if the F35B were to be dropped for any reason, would or could the Brits come out with a new version of the Sea harrier / Harrier? Is so what would it be like?
Scooter, do you really think the F35B is going to be superior to the F18, F35C Rafale, or other Russian naval fighters?
I always mispell rafale. I keep thinking it is similar to Raphael. Anyway I would not be surprised if it was the best, as it is the most modern.
Back to the Supercruise subject, are the F22 and Typhoon the only aircraft that can genuinely supercruise? How about the Rafale?
Changing the subject slightly, does anyone know what improvements Boing are making to the new model Hornet due out in 2010?

“Would you rather the Iraqis still lived under Saddam, that they were still tortured murdered”
I think Saddam Hassein had more control over his people than there is currently. The murder and mayhem is still continueing out of control.
I know this will upset people, but I cant understand why the Marines need their own air corp. Surely the USN air craft should be able to cater for their needs. If not, what are they for then?
Peter G, you are quite correct that two FFG’s are to be retired to provide crew for the AWD’s but they are in fact replacing the CFAdams DDG’s which were retired years ago. Why Canberra was retired last year, when the final decision on the AWD’s is still some time away is a bit of a joke. We apparently did not have the manpower required for all the Anzacs. A replacement for the FFG’s should in fact be under consideration now.
The RAN has for years thought in multiple of threes. 3 CFAdams DDG’s, before that Vendetta Vampire Voyager, then 6 FFG’s now 3 AWD’s. Although we seemed to break the cycle briefly with 8 Anzacs. I think a 4th AWD would be a practicle decision, two for each fleet. And a replacement for the 6 FFG’s should be sought shortly. Something about the size of a F123 or slightly larger (4’500 to 5’000) would probably be a good size.
UNICORN, RAAF started with 75 F18’s, I believe they only have 71 now.
Another option would be to get a couple of squadrons of Typhoons and reduce the amount of F35’s required accordingly.
Getting back to the subject of this thread “Back up ordered for next Warplane”, if we were to consider the F-18E/F, do you think we should wait until 2010 when the next version of it is supposed to be ready, or to get some now?
