Yep, that is very true, they have had problems in developing a family of engines based on a CFM core, but it’s not as if China doesn’t have any previous experience in engine production, even under license, such as the WS-9 based on the RR Spey. They could have opted to license produce the AL-31 series, but so far they’ve opted to continue purchasing units from the Russians.
According to Saturn`s Victor Mihailovic Chepkin, chief designer of the 117 and 117S engines, the Chinese WS-10 was developed with the aid of the AL-31`s maintenance technical documentation

Russia did not grant the license to China of AL-31 only to India
see link for India`s HAL engine division they do build the Al-31 for Su-30MKI under license

however UFA still delivers engines to HAL

Okay so here is an interesting photo I just happened to come across…it appears to be an early J-10 mockup or something…according to the website it was linked to. My question is directed at those who are adamant that the J-10 is not related to the Lavi in any way…I’ve always believed it was, but people seem to get quite offended by that assertion. How can the J-10 and Lavi not be related (by related I mean much more than just general configuration). Any idea of the dimensions of this mock-up? Was it as big as the J-10A now in service with the PLAAF? (Pardon the ignorance on this particular photo…I had just never seen it before.)

I am not that convinced it is that simple. If Russia was “ok” with China “copying” Su-33, why did Chinese get T-10K-3 from Ukraine and not got a prototype/serial frame from Russia? Just to look “extra bad”?
Russia did complain to China in 2009 about the J-11B aka Su-27, however it seems they fixed the situation since currently Sukhoi says the SU-27 series is still build in China meaning they fixed the issue at least they did it with SU-27, but they won`t allow the license for Su-35S
read
see they said
they were going to notify China about the J-11
At the MAKS 2009, Rosoboronexport’s General Manager Anatoli Isaykin was quoted saying: “Russia is going to investigate the J-11B, as a Chinese copy of the Su-27 and Sukhoi Company is partaking in the process.”

So where does Japan stand on the F-3 at present time?
They are supposed to fly in 2014 the tech demonstrator, now they are building the prototype of the tech demonstrator.
It is supposed to replace the F-15 by 2027 in the meantime Japan will use F-35s to replace F-4s.
According to what little has been released by magazines in Japan, they might build two variants one a FB-22 kind with no vertical tail and no horizontal tail, and a fighter type similar to the F-22

Recently they had a magazine in Japan that showed the main configurations studied, one was a YF-23 type aircraft a similar aircraft to PAKFA and another like The F-22.
They chose the F-22 type and IHI is designing the engines

Neither I know like most of us here nor I care that what was/is the agreement. What matter the most is that Russia has fixed the issue. I happy for you guys and wish you all the best with sharing S400, S500, Su-35 and PAK-FA.
Like I said earlier Russia deserves China :p
I do not know what deal China and Russia struck, however it seems the sale of Su-35s is not yet acomplished Sergey Chemezov, director general of Russian Technologies State Corporation, said it won` happen this year

See they say assembled so China is not allowed to copy the Su-35, if you read what are what some sources are saying is Russia has put some limitations in regard copy rights to China, plus Russia is selling engines Al-31 for J-10s and J-11s.
According to some sources Russia is even denying the right to repair the Su-35 in China since Beijing is reportedly trying to convince Moscow to have a maintenance center for the aircraft set up in China as part of the contract..
see this shows the Russians maybe and here i say maybe since is my opinion and not a fact, have accepted J-15s use Al-31s in exchance for engine sales and other off sets but they are unwilling to accept China copies Su-35

And what is the outcome of investigation (already 3 years passed) void.
Even China now has copies of Su33 in the air with Russian engines  and frequent articles in Russian media regarding possible sale of Su-35.
It seems Russian side is eager to sell their latest technology but it is China refusing to buy. Why should China pay if can get free of cost? 😀
it seems they fixed the issue see

In light of the ongoing investigations, Rosoboronexport expressed its concern over future sales of advanced Russian systems and components to China

Those Japanese fighter pilots in the videos look very professional. If push comes to shove they will give good account of themselves
i am not japanese i am a western person in Japan, but today Japan is a very peaceful country nothing like it was in 1938, most Japanese are nice and polite and in their 40s, mature people.
So i really dislike the internet warriors who just promote warmongering philosophies and can not see ecology plays a part in these conflicts since overpopulation, destruction of the environment are the root cause of conflict but these internet warriors only see their jingoistic ultra nationalistic excuses to promote warmongering excusing them selves with WWII, new generations most not see war but these neo-fascists want to start a war based upon one already past, very similar to Hitler`s philosophy.
The Japanese pilots i guess they are professional as well the American pilots, they keep us safe and free

Funny how all the raging sinophobes and/ or sock-puppets cluster over anything having to do with China like this topic trying to flood it with their “view” and present it as the “only one” (look it up, standard modus operandi of CIA/NSA sock puppets), yet one thing is very strange: none of the so called chinabots we’re supposed to have here posted one word in this topic, you would think they will be all over something like this. Strange innit ? Not if they are based in Langley though. (get it ?)
In regards to the yanks sending their stealth aircraft in the ADIZ (and holding the japanese by hand in the process), sure go ahead, this will be an excellent opportunity for the chinese air force and air defence to measure and calibrate the effectiveness of their measures planned to be taken against the stealths in case of US attack. Go ahead, make their day …
Tell me what guilt have Children that crazy internet warriors and lunatic jingoist ultra-nationalists some on the streets of China some on the internet of what happend in WWII?
Tell me what fault have these kids?
I will put it simple i live in Japan, i have family in Japan, and i am against any war, for me the possibility of war between Japan and China is something that affects my life in terms of life and dead, for you is very likely just an internet forum hobby
For those who live in Japan these pilots preserve our freedoms and lives.
So stop you whining warmonger
Thanks for this link !
But this is exactly the problem of “sources”: What the first report from Jamestown calls “Why China Wants the Su-35” (published October 10.) is just posted a bit later as “How China Plans to Use the Su-35” (November 27.) … what is a completely different thing !
An analysis “WHY” the PLAAF might purchase this type – and to admit I would be glad if they do so ! – is different to a report, that assumes that the deal is already done and badly connctes it to the recently established ADIZ by telling something like “will use“.
Deino
I do not know what do you mean by sources, i do not work for Sukhoi, neither Roboronexport or Rostec as such i depend upon what the ” sources” say basically RIA Novosti, Rostec or Voice of Russia .
If you have sources in Sukhoi or the Russian government or Chinese government perhaps you could know more in detail, otherwise if you have no official source to rely on, then the “sources” are the only source available, then is up to you what you decide to believe the rest i can not do nothing more than that.
here is rostec reporting

How China Plans to Use the Su-35
http://thediplomat.com/2013/11/how-china-plans-to-use-the-su-35/
China holds a vast majority of the U.S.’s debt. If they really want to stir the soup, they could just start calling in the notes and deal a blow to the U.S. without ever firing a shot.
The Chinese won`t do that to one of their main customers, if the US goes down, the demands for Chinese goods too and the US dollars in the Chinese banks go useless, if you have dollars and they lose value you lose money
