I agree with you about the practical operational value of such a weapon nowdays with advanced ecm’s outnumbered oponents etc.. . But the though only that your oponent can launch his weapons long before you can launch yours is devastating!
Isn’t there some treaties against the use of energy weapons like lasers against human idivinduals ?
I looked again, there are NO “winglets” at the initial images. I am refereing to the endings of the hydroplanes! Mayby it’s something HDW adopted during the 1st type 214 tests. I presume they have to do either with noise reduction measurements or, ofer beter hydrodynamic behavior…
I angree and I, as a Greek would be very pleased to know that Albania and all of my neighbours would have strong economies and developed countries with well educated citizens which guarantee the security, growth of our region! There I think you sould invest and not in arms. You simply waste your money then with no actual payoff!
Please! lakerdar123 do you realy think that Serbia or Greece is going to invade Albania????? And do you actually think that the any benefits from the whatever economical growth, should be spend to buy 2-3 more hellicopters or even a sqd of used f-16s instead of infrastructure or even increasing the salaries (do you know how they are rated among the Balcan countries?) of the people…. interesting! Even then what’s the use of that “modern albanian army” in the face of let say hypothetically Greece? none!
thanx Orko_8, I was just curious because of their endings. Haven’t noticed them again in any Type 214 image…
Yes but you must not forget that unfortunately Greece has the “advantage” to neighbour with an extremly “peaceful” nation, Turkey… Thats why Greece so desperate supports the acceptance of Turkey in the EU! Maybe then it will at last concentrate to the prosperity of it’s people and stop dreaming how to occupy it’s neighboor’s territory!
Why Albania needs an army anyway? To fight over who excactly?
Albanias army is to be a modern peace keeping army and able to defend itself.
Now that’s ridiculous! Defend itself from who? FYROM or Serbia or maybe Greece?
it is obvius that for at least 20-30 years Albanian economy can’t afford it! It’s better to try organize and develope the economy, health, education and work hard for a true deep democracy. The only goal should be one: A peaceful coexistence with it’s neighbours
MBDA is the manufacturer of the missile. Matra BAe Dynamics-UK is the main UK contractor and Matra BAe Dynamics-France the main French contractor. The two parts of the same company handled the international co-operation work, reducing project management overhead. Practically Storm Shadow/Scalp EG is based on the french Apache missile. The two parts of Matra BAe Dynamics act as separate Prime Contractors and hold the individual Storm Shadow and SCALP EG contracts for their respective national Governments.
Here is a HAF video with Patriot PAC-3 shot demonstreting a straight-down direct hit also…

Look at the size of this thing!
Hasn’t the US protested against the sell of Black Shahines (a SCALP/Storm Shadow derivative) to the UAE cause it did break some 300km+ range cruise missiles non-proliferation agreement?
The same thing happened with Greece
Anyone knows what’t the use of the “canards” in the frond of the Type214? Are they hydroplanes?
the unitary warhead of scalp is probable more compact than the multiple single /submunition payload of JASSM. Dead space can’t increase the weight 😉
And how much of that is airframe and how much fuel? There’s no reason AT ALL to believe they have similar fuel fractions.
Well I think the “not reason at all” is an exaggeration. It is propably quite indicant about their fuel fuel capacity too…
