You’re probably getting it mixed up with the Naval (SURFACE-launched) Scalp which will have quite a bit more range.

No, my infos concerns the air launced SCALP EG, although I regard also that a range of 450km is more realistic…

I wonder about the reliability of the leaks – rumors which define the actual range of SCALP EG up to about 600-650km…

Any info about it’s effective range, Power and the power/shots autonomy?
It seems like the best Anti Aircraft/Missile defence ever!

I think the best and -as far as I know the only – suitable for comparing in depth the S-300PMU-1 and Patriot PAC-3 is the HAF whitch operates both Systems for some years now!
Until recent there were some difficulties in integration of S-300 with the Hellenic Air defence network because of compatibility isues between the russian system and the (western NATO-like) greek Air defence network. This has prevented for some time a fair comparison of the efficiency of the 2 SAMs.
Maybe fantasma337 or Alepou 340MB could provide us with more information

Those 30mm cannons look so small. How useful is this system against aircraft and missiles?? Why did the Greeks choose to add these cannons to this craft?

    J33Nelson

The main Anti-aircraft/missile defence of the ship is the RAM system, those weapons are used as Alepou 340MB said as a secontary weapon against small surface/Air targets or asymetrical threats, covering the “blind” sectors of the ship.

Fremm has the advantedge over Spruance’s of being new and European. But on the other hand Freem project is too expensive. The deal of Fremm was twice postponed because of financial difficulties. The whole project costs around $11 billion for 27 ships. That makes ca. $400 million for one ship.

I wonder how Greece will find money to participate in Fremm programme, if even Italy and France find it difficult to pay.

Fremm frigates have many other advantedges over Spruance’s including the potential use of Naval Scalp EG cruise missile. No American ship which can be exported to Greece has such capability.
As for the Cost, you are referring the whole cost including the cost of the development of the project, wich is divided into 2 end future into more participants. The future buyers certainly won’t pay for that cost.
Even though the participation in such an advanced project would give Greece exept the obvius operational advantage over Turkish navy, many significant long term gainings like in the defence Industry and the know-how. No such things if Greece acquire again used ships (from Us or Europe ie.Holland)…

The answer was NO (as in NO WAY)…..Then they gave the Spruances to Turkey along with an Anchorage Dockship…….Just to keep the balance….. 😡

Well either way I’m not sure about it’s efficiency in the Aegean sea enviroment. They are too Big and Heavy, I always prefered a “European” solution like the Horizon/Fremm class Frigate for the air defense of the fleet with land attack capabilities (naval Scalp EG etc.) …

JASSM/ No Ma’am – Which Will It Be?
    by Defence Industry Daily

The US Defense Budget has gone to “reconciliation,” during which the US Congress and Senate attempt to take the different defense budgets passed in each body, and reconcile them into one official document for the President to sign. The Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) is left in limbo during this time, either to be cut almost entirely with a recommendation for termination, or to face a $50 million trim from its $150 million program request.

Please can you translate the lettering on the side of the “Hellenic Flame” Sabre? The original team never had that on them! Thanks

It means HELLENIC FLAME (ELLHNIKH FLOGA)
