Hypothetically if Syria go crazy and attack Turkey won’t Greece come to the Turk’s aid as a fellow NATO member. 😀

I presume Greece is going to help as much NATO did all these years every time Turks violate Greek national airspace, waters, FIR, even flying over Greek islands… (thousands times annually…)

And by the way the only potential “going crazy and attack” candidate in the area is Turkey.

How come Turkish pilots have always difficulties to stay inside their borders…?

Iraq, Syria, Greece, Cyprus… They all continuously complain for airspace violations from THK…

I guess it was a matter of time….:rolleyes:

well, the only fact about the final decision is that no one has even a clue. The only person who knows is the Prime Minister of Greece. Until the decision is taken Rafale, Typhoon, Gripen F-16, F-18 are all possible selections. Rumors about the performance of the Rafale’s are just rumors and nothing more. Their source are individuals who favor the one over the other candidate. The only way to evaluate the perfornance of such complicated weapon systems is a circumstantial assessment of the candidates. Furthermore the weighting factors are political. The economic crisis from the other hand will propable postpone the final decision again.

Anyway recent info, insists that an decision for a new purchase is imminent.
More chances for the EF2000 or the F-16B52 or B60

I would be more sceptic about the final winner of this competition. Rafale has became a very strong candidate the past year. As long as the present administrations continue in Greece and France, Rafale is – in my opinion – the most probable choise.

J-7 Hotdog: Greece and Bulgaria enjoy close relations. Noone is a threat to the otherone. Turkey from the other hand…. :rolleyes:

I start to wonder if there isn’t a plan to “switch” some future Rafale of the AdA with Mirage -5 and -9.
that would fit well with the rumor of a lowered target of Rafale.

According DefenceNet.gr (in Greek only, sorry), Sarkozy during his last visit in Greece, proposed Greece to buy 25 new Rafales, in order to “replace” and not mordenize the rest 20 older M-2000E/BGMs (15 were upgraded to -5MK2 standard and 10 more were purchaced new from HAF the past decade) for about 1.75 billion Euros.

Well That’s an offer, a little bit alike with the UAE case…
