Rafale is disparaged frequently because it’s not the pan-European (and more importantly British) EF-2000. Were you to realistically rate the four aircraft you mentioned, in my professional opinion, you’d have Rafale, Su-30MKI, EF-2000, Gripen, and Su-30MKK, in that order. With the F-22A and F-35 far out in front, obviously.
My opinion too…
not yet, there are some problems to be solved I think with the links and the software. Until then HAF denies to accept the system. Uploading those pictures though at the formal HAF webspace propably indicates that the programme is at the very final stage…
HAF decided to equip the new 30 F-16’s with Goodrich DB-110 real-time Recce pod…
Any news about M2000-5MK.2s ?

Raytheon Co. in Goleta, CA received a $96 million firm-fixed-price, time and materials contract for the foreign military sales of the Advanced Self Protection Integrated Suite to the country of Greece. This electronic warfare system will be used on the F-16 aircraft being procured under a separate acquisition by the F-16 program office. Associated spares, support equipment, engineering services, flight test support and data are also being acquired under this contract. Solicitations began March 2006, negotiations were complete July 2006, and work will be complete April 2009. The Headquarters Warner Robins Air Logistics Center at Robins Air Force Base, GA issued the contract (FA8253-06-C-0027).
While the exact equipment involved wasn’t specified in the DefenseLINK release, long-time DID readers will recall our coverage of the October 2005 DSCA announcement re: Greece’s F-16 buy, which included a total potential requirement for 43 AN/ALQ-187 Advanced Self-Protection Integrated Suites. The Greek EPA has depended on Raytheon for similar equipment before, via the $242 million ASPIS II contract in 2003 to cover its existing fleet of F-16s. More complete coverage of the F-16 Block 52+ shooting down Greece’s previous Eurofighter contract can be found in our original July 2005 article, which has been updated to note the accompanying weapons purchases and their Air Force’s recent decision not to pick up the option for 10 more F-16C/Ds. If the ALQ-187 contract tracks with the number of aircraft ordered, it could now be as few as 33 units.

T-2E with advanced Nav/targeting pod, hellfire missiles, Rockets and stingers for self defence
great pictures Ja Worsley…
according the Hellenic Defence magazine of june 2006 one of HAFs highest priority plans is to aquire initialy 4 UCAV Neuron ‘s. The decision is to be made until the end of June! 😮
F-22
– Miniaturized version of Space Shuttle Boosters,
– Improvement of the structure to reach hypersonic speed,
– AIM-120E (AIM-120 D with nuke warhead 😀 ),
– B61 for CAS,
– B83 for deeeeeep strike,
– what else ?😀 😀 😀
I can’t think of any soldier asking CAS from an F-22 armed with B61s 😀
As Greece and Turkey keep pace with eachother with military equipment and one doesn’t like being outdone by the other, I can’t understand why the Hellenic Air Force doesn’t form an official aerobatic team in competition with the”Turkish Stars”. Even a team of Raytheon Texans would be better than nothing?
Well as far as I’m concerned there are serious thoughts towards this direction. Furthermore it is in near future plans of HAF to form a “historical aircraft squadrom” with varius types of aircrafts that served HAF in the past. Note that those aircraft are going to be in flight condition! I hope either way the Hellenic Flame to perform again. I think the T-2E ‘s after aquiring the new trainer would be perfect for the Acro Team.
my thoughts also…
According today’s hellenic newspaper “Espresso” the final decision about the new fighter of HAF is going to be taken by until the end of this June! It also claims that the decision regards only 10+10 possibly Eurofighter-Typhoons I ‘m not sure about the reliability of the newspaper and those info… The present government have prooved to be unpredictable when it comes in such matters (see the additional 10 F-16’s cancelation et. 😉
The Typhoon is operational in the A-A role NOW. The JSF has yet to fly, let alone fire a BVR weapon.
Typhoon is a genuine multi role aircraft, while JSF is a tactical fighter with a robust but secondary A-A capability.
Typhoon will carry Meteor before the UK even receives JSF. Integration of Meteor on JSF is not funded or planned and is MOST unlikely to happen.
CAESAR is likely to be fitted to Typhoon before the UK receives JSF.[…]
Agree but:
Typhoon will have, or is likely to have:
1) Faster acceleration
2) Supercruise
Are you sure? Loaded with ext. tanks & weapons while F-35 will have all them at the internal bay?
3) Longer reach
Your sources?
4) Greater combat persistance (more missiles)
not if you load Jsf ‘s external pylons
5) Possibly longer radar range (with CAESAR)
not Possibly
6) Better DVI (significant in complex multi vs multi engagements)
your sources??? JSF has much better DVI
and last but not least, A fancy new paintjob with a urban Camo color sheme.
He he, I like the way you think, (because what it looks good it flies good too) 😀
