IAF sets up 8 radars on TN coast
Following an air raid by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on Colombo on Monday, the Indian Air Force has set up eight radars on the coast of Tamil Nadu to monitor any violation of air safety into India and plans to set up an air base in the area in future.
The radars have been installed inside a jungle near Sundaramudaiyan village in the coastal Ramanathapuram district, which is 60 km from the island nation, according to a senior IAF official.
He said trial runs had been conducted on the radars and an air surveillance team of 50 IAF personnel would man them.
He said the IAF was also contemplating to set up an air base at Seeniapah Dargah in the area.
On Monday the LTTE flew light combat aircraft from the Vanni region in Sri Lanka all the way to Colombo covering a distance of around 400 km. From Vanni the distance to Tamil Nadu is much less and if the Tigers use a sea plane it can even reach near Chennai covering a lesser distance.
The IAFβs action came in the wake of all three Indian defence services along with the Indian Coast Guard stepping up its vigilance and patrolling in the seas following a large-scale smuggling of explosives and bomb-making materials from Tamil Nadu to the island nation in the recent past.
Lt-Gen Aditya Singh, GOC-in-C, Southern Command of the Indian Army, said here today that arms and ammunitions smuggling from Tamil Nadu to the LTTE in Sri Lanka was a major concern for defence services and joint patrolling with the Sri Lankan navy was feasible to combat it.
SOC,
which past achievement(s) of MiG are you specifically talking about ?
A question to Pit, GarryB, flex and others. When did work on the Zhuk-AE start ? Where is it currently placed on the path to realization of it’s stated brochure parameters ?
Now, what on earth are you waiting for, India π
We are waiting for Scooter to talk to the IAF and convince them to buy the Super Hornets.

Seems like Sengputa this time plagiarize some Gripen article (I think it was by Bill Sweetman, former JED)…the TIDLS thingie is word by word copy & paste from such.
Pit, your comments about Sengupta’s articles, especially those pertaining to Russian hardware are mucho appreciated.

edit, nice video there.
Not unless India is going to start making large-scale military deployments to back up the US around the world – I think you need to check what you’re smoking, as it’s obviously affecting your judgement. :p
Obviously, Monsieur glitter is being sarcastic ! :p π
small modernization of R-77 is entering in year or so and big modernization in 2010 with 100 to 250% increase in range , 100 seconds time, dual warheads, antimissile defense, rear protection.
Source please, and what do you mean by rear protection ? Are u referring to rear hemisphere protection of the aircraft using upg. R-77 ?

Webmaster, if it will not be possible to continue having Navy/Army discussion sub-forums, I request you to please keep those forums open for viewing ( not active discussions ) for a span of a week or so within which no new discussions would occur and at the same time people will be able to save all the excellent information stored in the various threads.
Thanks.
