Well, that interesting question coming from a Australian. As most believe the Flanker is unbeatable and superior to everything except the Raptor. As I said the question is not that the Typhoon maybe better than say a J-11B, Su-30 MKI, or Su-35. Yet, how much better………..

British Defense experts made an attempt to compare the newest Russian fighter SU-35 with its modern western analogs.
During the evaluation the experts simulated the fight between Su-35 and some western airplanes (such as F-22) to determine how many Russian planes will be destroyed. Mind that Su-35 is the upgraded version of Su-27 and relates to 4++ aircraft generation.
Analyzing the plane’s characteristics, the agency imitated tactic and technical peculiarities. They were “equipped” with appropriate missiles, the pilot’s tactic was also impersonated.
The statistic was summmiresed and showed the following:
F-22 – 10,1:1 (one brought down F-22 for more than 10 SU-35)
Typhoon – 4,5:1
Rafale 1:1
F-15C 0,8:1
F-18D 0,4:1
F-18C 0,3:1
F-16C 0,3:1

Sorry, it likely the JASDF equipped with Typhoons could face more than 4.5 to 1 odds vs the Flanker. Which, would also be supported by large numbers of J-10’s. That of course doesn’t even include possible future models of PAK-FA’s or J-XX’s………..like I said I personally don’t believe the Typhoon provides the level of Air Superiority needed by the JASDF. [/B]
…. as of today China has not ordered Su35 yet to my knowledge and I do not think they would do in big numbers. Just imagine Japan orders 100 Typhoon I do not see 500 Su35, that by the way would take forever to be built, for what concerns the J10, If you are in a Cold War scenario between China and Japan, you could always use your F15 to take care of them.
Just remember that airplanes needs to be built in a decent way and right now the Typhoon has got 4 Final Assembly lines plus a fifth to be built in Saudi Arabia and Japan might have one as well. So if we think about an escalation Japan could get airplanes way much sooner then China.
