To firebird and der , Hi , the answer to you questions are yes , the Shackleton is still flying , based at Ysterplaat in Cape Town , and as I am in Johannesburg , I havent been able to get to Cape Town to see Mike Beachyheads Lightning , but he has the three in jet black , the lightning , hunter and buccaneer , and I believe a second lightning under restoration . So , yep I have a few specials here , but at my local airport , Swartkop, there is a Shackleton , 2 x hudsons , and a canberra parked , sadly out in the open awaiting refurbishing , which hopfully will be soon . :

Well I am impressed . All the knowledge given over the last few days , really great . many thanks to Firebird , Moggy c and others for the info on 633 squadron . I really am thankful to you all . I really envy you all having those Air stations vertually on your door step . I am a member of “The friends of the Museum ” at Swartkops Airbase , to my knowledge , we have four airfields where classics are rebuilt , so it is some consolation , but visits to Manston , Hendon , Duxford and IWM last November were mind blowing . Reagards

[Firebird great , thanks for the speedy reply . very informative . As a South African , could you tell were this info is available for future ref , or was it info you knew about without having to source . Thanks againQUOTE]Originally posted by Firebird
Yup, Bovingdon was the airfield used…now has a prison built on most of it……same airfield was also used for the making of ‘Mosquito Squadron’ 5 years later.

More than 3 Mossie’s were used for the filming of 633 Sqn. as follows:-

    T.3 TW117 now static display Bodo,Norway (ex-RAFM Hendon)
    B.35 RS709 (G-ASKA,N9797) static display USAF Museum
    B.35 RS712 (G-ASKB,N35MK) non-airworthy, Kermit Weeks
B.35 TA634 (G-AWJV) static display, Mosquito Aircraft Museum
    B.35 TA639 static display Cosford
    B.35 TA719 (G-ASKC) static display IWM Duxford [/QUOTE]
