I stayed in the Travelodge in Boston – basic, but clean, and EK is about 30 minutes away.

Easy…. one was excellent (2 Fins),the other was crap (single fin) :diablo:
Ducks 😀 😀 😀
Don’t blame the Finn’s, or the ducks, they had nothing to do with it.

Hi,
Thanks for posting – that’s looking very nice indeed – well done to all in the Project.:)
Looks like there is still plenty of space in the hanger for you to fill…..!

Soviet Stirling posts
Might I respectfully point you to http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=60675 where we discussed this a while back.
I have often thought about setting up an index page of Stirling discussions from the site, as there are some pictures of the various Big Bits left, and we frequently get asked about any remaining Stirlings. A quick search of the forum will usually throw up the relevant discussions.
As far as Canadian Stirlings are concerned, I am afraid none ever went out there. There was a plan to build a Mark II with Wright Cyclone engines in Canada, but after the two prototypes were converted in England, the plan was shelved.

Whilst we have one flyable Lancaster in the country I rate the incremental benefit of having a second as being pretty minimal.
If the Pantons wish to do it, more power to their elbow. But it isn’t something that would be getting me bouncing up and down with excitement.

What????
Astounding, simply astounding.

im all for it, at the end of the day three things are important to bare in mind,
1) Its their aircraft
2) Its their money
and
3) its their airfieldi am happy for them whatever they decide to do 🙂
Whilst I agree with your sentiment, I would say that the Pantons and their colleagues are very aware that they are custodians of an important piece of aviation heritage, and a memorial not just to their brother, but to all those who died in WWII – especially in Bomber Command. Their decision concerning the future role of NX611 as a ‘living memorial’ needs careful consideration. Undoubtably many more people would experience the sight of Just Jane if she flew, than would if she we restricted to EK.
Moreover, it is not only their money, as a lot of people donate to the cost of running NX611 (although they bought her in the first place).
Finally, EK is their airfield, but a similar arguement pertains concerning its value to the Nation as a living memorial.
If she does fly again, is there anything to stop her from offering taxi rides on a twice-weekly basis as well?
Whatever the Pantons decide, and I think it will be a difficult decision that we should all support, I am sure that Just Jane will remain a very fitting tribute to the 55,000.
DS
Well, well, well. I am surprised – but wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a flight in NX611:D:D:D
DS
Hang on though – that might not happen, care of european regs/ H&S etc that stopped Dakota/DC3 pleasure flights 🙁
A ‘wouldn’t it be wonderfull if NX611 flew..’ thread comes up quick often. I understand that in theory she could take to the air tomorrow, but there would in truth be a huge mountain to climb to put her back in the air to the CAA’s satisfaction.
The Pantons had always maintained that she was the centre of EK and should not fly off, but I take the point that it might secure her future if she were mobile – the cost of keeping her in the air would be very significant.
I’d go with this being a rumour without substance. After all, there is no way that an aged 4 engine Avro bomber could be……….
DS
Well done to all of you – a fantastic achievement! She looks superb.
What’s next?;)
DS
Vne,
Many thanks for a great visit to see your fabulous collection at Archerfield. Your time was much appreciated, and that Spitfire is going to be magnificent!
Best regards
Steve
Any chance of some piccies…?

I can only make the 23rd.
I wonder if it might be better to do this later in the year? A lot of people will be on holiday in August. Having something to look forward to in November might be nice.
We had a forum trip (2 actually!) to the Mossy museum ~2 years ago, off season. It worked very well, thanks to Bruce and his colleagues. If Buncefield had not gone up the morning of the first trip it would have worked out even better:eek:
Just a thought…

Best photos of 2008?
Great photos – thank you very much for sharing.
I am tempted to say you are ‘lucky’ – but without being such a talented photographer you would not get opportunities like this – well done.
DS
I would certainly be interested. Can you be a bit clearer about the dates though – I do need a bit of advanced warning for The Boss.

Factor 50 is the way to go!!
My Tip:
Don’t forget your ears, your nose, your neck and the thenar eminance (the muscely bit between the tumb and index finger) on the back of your hand – I always burn there!

Best time/route to arrive
I took adavantage of the FlyPast reader offer for the Friday trade day. I might even pick up a deal on an Airbus.
Last time I was there was the late 70’s – things might have changed at bit:)
Does anyone have any tips on the best route into Farnborough to avoid the crowds – and I guess the earlier the better?
Thanks
