Oh dear, he is in a heap of trouble. To have ‘stumbled’ across the illegal removal of the wrecks, and then be arrested for ‘illegal entry’ sounds very much like he has crossed the wrong people.
I’ve seen the jail in Gizo, not a fun place. But they do let the prisoners out on Wednesday afternoons to play footy on the village green (or did 20 years ago when I was there!).
With any luck there will be some other, local presures brought to bear and he and his colleagues will escape incarceration – I am sure we all wish them the best.
As far as the scrap theory goes, I would have thought the planes are worth more to rich collectors than their scrap value, having taken the trouble to drag them out of the bush and transport them to China (or wherever).

Air Britain – ‘The Stirling File’ goes for around £50 on ebay.

Sorry guys, real life/work/family has intruded, and I probably won’t make it. Have a great day if I don’t see you – maybe we can make it a yearly event?
DS
I’ll be easy to spot too – i’ll be wearing a blue polo shirt with my name on it, and doubt there’ll be many other Rob Langham’s around Hendon that day!
Blast, I was going to wear that.
I’ll be carying a stepladder…….

Lincoln serial numbers/squadron codes
Does anyone have access to a list of Lincoln serial numbers/ squadron codes? I found some pictures of my father in front of a Lincoln at RAF Upwood during his National Service. He was an LAC in Radar maintainance in 49 Squadron. The serial number is partly obscured. I am interested in trying to trace the details of that plane, or the one he flew out to Kenya in during the Mau Mau troubles He also has a few pictures from that time. I must get around to posting them – when I am at home, not work!
Thanks

’tis a great shame, but I doubt if this is really the end for the Lady. The lure of an airworthy B17 will be too much for a wealthy collector to pass by. Look how much trouble they went to, to retrieve the Swamp Ghost (and got nowhere). A short runway won’t stop them unscrewing the wings and putting her on a low loader for the first part of her trip back to the US.

I agree – look at the trouble NASA had in keeping up public interest in the Apollo Moon landings. People were complaining to the networks that another live broadcast meant re-runs of ‘I love Lucy’ were being cancelled. Apathy was defeineitly a reason in the early termination of the Apollo programme.
DS
probably.
Only the 16th for me I am afraid – but it would be nice to meet up.
