Oh how terrible. I was just about to enthuse about seeing the BBMF Spitfire and Hurricane over RAF Bentley Priory when I read this.

    Really, really sad news.

My condolences to the pilots family.

That is a shame. It was supposed to be AB910 for the Polish veterans.

My eyesight and knowledge wouldn’t usually let me tell one variant from another, but this was definitely blue and not a Merlin!

Personally I’d rather see the Hampden finished or a composite Wellington at East Kirkby before money was used to put NX611 in the air.

As she is NX611 is a great memorial to the men of Bomber Command and East Kirkby is one of the few places the public can get up close to a “live” WW2 bomber, something which may not be so easy is she was back in the air.

    Garry.

And that is how the Pantons wish it to remain. A NX611 is the core of the museum, and they do not wish her to fly, if she could. She certainly is in a good enough condition to technically get off the ground, but will never realistically be fully airworthy.

    ‘Tis a nice thought though…..

Watford had some trouble with the audio synch at the start, but it seemed to settle quickly and I did n’t notice it latter. I was surprised by the diversity of the audience – young kids, OAP’s and more ladies than my wife would have expected! There was considerable consternation when the ‘N’ word came up -it really did seem almost embarrassing to hear it.

It cannot remember seeing on old B&W film at the cinema before, but sitting near the front made up for the lack of widescreen, and you really could count the rivets! I had forgotten many of the one-liners – the bomb aimer saying how dangerous low-flying was! And Lincolns in the background, but I missed the Canberra.

A thoroughly good evening out – only spoilt by the the guy infront with a long lens sitting on a step-ladder 😉

    Hi,

If you can wait about 15 years I could finish one of the kits I have in the loft 🙂

As an alternative to the previous poster, ebay regularly lists unmade kits and there are a couple of small, ready built models that come up quite often. This would not help the customisation though.

Finally, in the back pages of Flypast there are ads for commisioned models.

Could you post a picture of the finished model?

If the knives come out even in a discussion on discussing fatal aircrashes, you cannot win.

Leave things as they are and edit out the rare, unpleasant statements.

The countdown starts to the first ‘dogcentric’ posting…..

    Moggy

Never mind the dog, because of their association with the Wars of the Roses, they are changing the bombers to B-17’s to avoid upsetting anyone from the House of York.

Thanks for posting these great shots. I am very local to Northolt – is this photocall day for service personel and/or press only, or do tax-payers get to go as well?:D
