Something from Bomber Harris – ‘Reaping the Whirlwind’?
DS
Very cool!! 😎
Thanks for sharing
DS
That’s never Sunderland. Looks like the Far East. Probably Dagenham.
Oh……..identify the plane.
Sorry.

Providing I get permission from the Control Tower, I should be back 🙂

I think a remake would be a wonderfull boost for historic aviation. Look at what LOTR did for New Zealand. Having a new generation seeing these great planes thundering across the sky – albeit in CGI – would undoubtably raise the profile of the BBMF/Just Jane/ Dx etc, and this can only be A Good Thing.
As far as remakes go, they never live up to your expectations or outdo the original, but I for one will be at the front of the queue to see Lancs in colour 😀
DS
Fair enough – I offer the 22nd or the 29th – let me know!
Cheers for now
Bruce
Either is fine for me……
DS
Glad you made it!
At the time I had to decide, it was unclear what had caused it, and whether there would be more to come. It takes me just under 2 hours on a good day to get there, so I decided to call it off just in case.
The museum is always cold at this time of year, and today was a relatively mild day. I have worked in the hangar at -2 degrees; mind you, the paintstripper doesnt work very well! If we want to warm the hangar up, we open the doors; the hangar is usually colder than it is outside!
Lets wait until the spring, and go from there.
Bruce
Springs good for me. Sorry you couldn’t be there – I’m impressed you do a 4+ hour round trip each Sunday.
In the meantime, I hear the Bagdad Museum of aviation is worth a visit 😀
DS
Well, really. A little bit of smoke and you all stay in bed! Call yourselves aviation enthusiasts. Pah! 😉
Four of us were lucky enough to get a personalised tour of the museum! Was a bit dark outside and I was feeling under the weather, having been woken at 6 by the explosion – thought Mr B. Laden was having a go at Northwood HQ at first.
And it was Brass Monkey’s.
The 3 brave souls and I enjoyed ourselves greatly, thanks to the hospitality of the museum staff and chairman who showed us around.
Let’s try again in the summer!
Seasons Greetings,
DS
Good grief, was there any room for the pilot?
I’ll need the long tape measure.
DS
Didnt they fly ‘top cover’ for Stirlings?
Nah, ’twas the other way around 😉
DS
All informal,
Ralph Steiner, our managing director will have Tea and Biccies in the clubroom at 11 for all who arrive by then.
See you then
Bruce

There was a picture of it in flight during an ‘Airsho’ in this months Flypast. Was it implied that it was part of the confederate airforce (or whatever they are called now)?
DS
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I can thoroughly recommend The Chequers in Fowlmere – excellent pint, good food and an aviation theme. Several old pictures inside of the airfield, and they also honoured some of the old fighter squadrons on the pub sign.
Found the airfield memorial at Fowlmere.
I then went on to Dx – couldn’t resist it! – just a quick stop in the car park, and was rewarded with the sight and sound of HFL’s Tr.IX Spitfire taking off. Well chuffed 😀
Then drove past Bassingbourn, and finally tried to find the memorial at Steeple Morden, but only found the village sign!
So there you go – it is possible to have fun around Duxford, without actually visiting Duxford (well, apart from a visit to the car park, it wouldn’t have felt right to not have popped in……)
DS
ps – sorry about the low quality shots – phone camera only, forgot the real one.
