    Sigh. 🙁

The first dedicated Stirling thread on this forum for ages (ever?) and it ends up like this.

Many congratulations to Peter van Gelderen for his efforts, I would love to see the finished work. The world needs more StirlingStuff.

The great pity is that, face to face, rather than by email, much of what has just gone on would never have been said. Emails are just too open to misinterpretation. I see it all the time at work and it is a great shame that it has to taint this forum, where we are all on the same side after all.

    DS.

I had a taxi ride in JJ a few months ago, and the airframe technician (I have forgotten his name, he used to work on the BBMF Lanc – he may even be in this forum!) was in no doubt whatsoever that she could fly. The degree of renovation of her systems was up to scratch, but getting her to a state that would satisfy the CAA that she was *safe* to fly was another matter entirely. As mentioned, re-sparing would be necessary, plus doubtless other things to repair, and the cost would be high. I am sure this has been said before……

    But she *could* fly.

My father was a radar engineer on Lincolns, based at RAF Upwood, and spent 6 weeks in Kenya during Mau Mau. He had wanted to go to Singapore! He recalls the Harvards out there was well, and that none of the ground crew wanted to go up in them – despite the offers – as it was policy to make them as airsick as possible!

Stirling H-Harry was displayed in front of St Pauls for London’s Wings for Victory week in February1943.
