I think the fact that we are discussing this in Historic, rather than Modern Military, is very relevant to this sad affair.

There is an article in todays Sunday Times (so it must be true) that says they have seen an MOD report detailing ‘ several hundred design non-compliances’. These included failures of the nose gear to deploy, problems opening the bomb bay doors, engines overheating, gaps in engine walls, limitations in operating in icy conditions and concerns that a single bird strike could disable the planes controls. Moreoever, the design flaw that probably led to the loss of XV230 had apparerntly still not been resolved.

Whether this is government-led propaganda to justify the cancellation, or justifiable reasoning, remains to be seen, but sometimes you just have to know when to give up.

    It`s apparently got a 400mm wingspan,so i would think 1/72 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the original spec, but they are going to have to make it 370mm to fit in the boxes 😉

There was a discussion here about this aircraft a while ago. The search function should bring it up.

    There most certainly was.;)

    Not Spotted

After 2 years waiting for it to be repeated, I managed to miss the BBMF flying around Northwood HQ (and thus my house)- probably on their way to Northolt.

Still, my neighbour sent me an excited text to tell me I missed it:mad:

    Thanks anyway guys!!

    Not Spotted

I stood around for 30 minutes waiting to see if that flypast for Northolt would come over my house in Northwood like it did a few years ago.

    It didn’t.

    Nice evening though.

    Hi

It was displaying over Bentley Priory – I just got there in time to hear it behind the trees:mad::mad::mad::mad:. Last year a Spitfire/Hurricane pair was all over the sky, but this year he was much lower.

Managed to get one snap before he finished. I must try harder next time:rolleyes:

    Thanks BBMF!

Notwithstanding the bravery of those who put themselves in harms way to conduct the raid, it would not be inappropriate to remember the hundreds of innocents who also perished that night.

Gosh gentlemen, I thank you for your kind words.

I am encouraged to try harder next weekend, when the BBMF visit the skies over Bentley Priory. Only 15 minutes from me, but it will take an hour to explain to the Boss why I want to pop out over lunch……

Had this in my diary to pop over and watch, but had to work.:(

Hopefully the planned display at Rickmansworth is still on for Saturday evening – right on my doorstep!

don’t forget the flask of warm orange squash and the snorkel!!!

Given the aircraft on show, I will be donning my flying helmet and stick of wet celery!!!

Looking forward to this. Ginger Neil is a real gent. His books are of similar quality and readability to Geoff Wellum’s.

If anyone wants to kick me (or avoid me!) I will prob wear my Merlin Power T shirt!!

I’ll be there in my ‘Stirling To The Sky’ T-shirt, trying to take pictures with a box-brownie.
