    Morning,

My vote would go for the “MacRobert’s Reply”. Althought it carried quite a ‘restrained’ nose art, this was probably the most famous Stirling of the War. The story of the donation for its purchase is very moving, as is what happened to its successor. This is very well documented at http://www.macrobertsreply.com/.

Thanks for helping to keep the memory of these famous aircraft alive.

Are you sure this wasn’t actually powered by the torpedo, and the engines were carried on the wings a spares? :diablo:

The Patricia Roc film (“Millions Like Us”) has Short Stirlings as it’s main draw !

She’s (supposed) to be working on ’em (or bits related), whilst her ‘Love-Interest’ (a very young Gordon Jackson, ‘ex’ ‘Great-Escape’/’Professionals’), is part of Stirling Aircrew.

Can’t remember how much is featured of ’em, but it’s gotta be worth picking up ?

Patricia Roc was such a great-beauty in her time 😎

So, two great beauties in one film (err, not Gordon Jackson :o)- excellant! 😀

    Thanks for the heads-up.

    Individual airport emergency landing/ditching plans

Terrific job by the pilots on this one!

A question: would ditching in the Hudson be a well-recognised emergency option for severe power loss on t/o from this airport? Do other airports have similar suggested locations for emergency ditching/landings in case of inability to reach the runway on t/o or landing? Just wondering if I need to stay alert and remember how many bows to tie my life jacket straps in if my next EasyJet flight tries to ditch in the River Lea outside of Luton.

PS – but seriously, what great news that all were well. A testament to the training of flightcrews and the safety of modern airliners. I bet there are a few Airbus designers who are feeling chuffed right now.

    Spooky coincidence

Last night I saw a freebie download from BT Vision on WWII fighters. It was largely filmed at Dx, care of the OFMC and TFC. Sadly it featured several pilots, and airframes, no longer with us – including Mark Hanna.

Definitely worth an hour if your can get it. And it gave me an excuse not to wash up:)

    Mustang over Luton?

1.23pm – Sounded like a P-51 – and looked like it from behind – just flew over Dunstable, heading towards Luton airport????

I caught a few seconds of him wobbling precariously on the bombardiers seat as they banked around – looked like great fun!

not even the doctors (the insultants don’t work weekends obviously) I don’t believe it was a biosecurity issue either…..

Mine is taped to my security pass – and looks rather battered as a result.;)

    Especially after a weekend on-call. ;);)

I actually asked my team why we wear a poppy – none of them knew. To be fair, none were born in the UK – especially the German girl – but they were all aware of Rememberance Sunday. But not why it is at 11.00.:(

One of the things I have learned from being on this forum for a few years, is that there is always more to warbird recovery/restoration/operation than meets the eye. 😉

This will make a great story one day.

    Hi,

What really excited me about the emails, even though there was no sign of progress, was that the airframe was described as being in two halves. I was not aware it was bisected when we last discussed it on the forum.

Do you know how the CAS knew it was in two places? He seemed quite certain about this, so we only have to wait for the latest Cold War to melt…..
