Nothing very clandestine about the B-36, either in size or noise created!

Perhaps he is referring to the AFDU incident at Wittering?

Edit: crossed posting!
The American WIX Forum has begun again to discuss this sorry tale; one post includes a link to the last time the topic was
raised, in 2009.
In the 2009 posts there are claims and counter claims as to who found the remains first, a reference to eye witness accounts of the accident , and mention of possibly more Fleet Air Arm aircraft wrecks in the state of Maine.

Watching that video made me feel so, so sad.

Unfortunately, as this article shows, the US government continues to fail in similar issues to those discussed in this thread, despite having made vastly more resources (and rhetoric) devoted to the task than the UK government.

I’ve always had reservations about the US approach, and that article only goes to reinforce them.

“As the plate does not have the c/n no. am I right in assuming that it’s not a manufacturers plate but was fixed after the aircraft was preserved? The Royal Malaysian Air Force Museum refers to it as the Dove”
No – the plates were in the aircraft when they were retired from military service. I would suspect these plates have been in the aircraft since they were received new from de Havilland.
Could they be so-called ‘Fire Plates’ to identify, heaven forbid, a burnt-out airframe? Such plates are usually engraved stainless steel, I can’t tell if the one in question is.

A new post in English on Qattara’s website:
The gist of it seems to be that they have made a new alliance with Cairo University to facilitate the identification of some of the numerous human remains that they have found in the desert. The possibility that some may be of Dennis Copping is mentioned; this is not news, however, they have been stating this for some time.

Slight drift :Anybody know why Duxford didn’t apply the City of Bath arms on TG 528 on its last repaint? The silver doesn’t look right either!
I flew many flights on this particular Hastings, including the Zambia oil crisis, when on 24 Squadron at Colerne in the mid-60s. Sorry. no photos to hand (dreaded computer crash, etc ).
I believe that the repaint was to portray it as it was during the era of the Berlin Airlift, ie pre-dating the granting of the coat of arms. As for the shade of silver paint, I agree, but it seems a common problem.

Nice shots.
Now to be known as a Hunter T.8 BIRO?

Two enlightening posts in 10 minutes, one from the far side of the world!
I’m much closer to the answer now…

How did a Spitfire wing come to be lying in a hedge in Devon?
Just curious.

Airfix Magazine photo
I remember seeing a photo of them on the range, full of holes but still very recognisable, in an old copy of Airfix Magazine.

JU88 buried in Surrey?
When the M3 motorway was built (30 ? years ago) a newspaper report described the unearthing of the remains of one or more former Luftwaffe aircraft, dumped as surplus after WWII.
If I recall, a JU88 was mentioned, said to have come from the RAE at Farnborough . The location was near Chertsey in Surrey.
