    Here are two plates the simple one is from a Merlin packing crate the second is a typical Merlin engine plate. Your plate looks more likely to be from a packing case, still a very nice piece you should write to Rolls Royce with the number and they will give you quite a bit of info. Ie what factory the engine went to the date and possibly the batch of aircraft. You should certainly be able to find out what type of aircraft.

    It may be possible to find out what aircraft type and even the batch of aircraft this engine went in tom but highly unlikely to get a specific aircraft. Rolls Royce are usually pretty helpfull. This plate looks more like one attached to a transit case than an engine plate.

    Its quite heavy has a steel frame nothing like four tons do not know much about its history so if you know post it please. Definately not airworthy.

    I was going to say the same, its the only floor worth visiting now. they have an amazing collectiion of aero engines
