Although she did not serve in the forces a similar thing happened to my Grandmother, she was in care for a few years before she died and the house had to be sold to pay for it. If you spend a life time contributing and manage to save a little in the form of a house or other gratuities you will have your last penny taken from you. If you live on benefits and never contribute anything its all free. The problem is that to even to discuss the subject these days makes you a racist as can be seen from the post by our Australian friend.
The government may say they cannot afford to pay for this care despite the huge sums sent abroad and wasted at home, how much did the MODs computer system that never worked cost???.
However the Country owes a huge unrepayable debt to the people who served their Country in the forces and they SHOULD be looked after even if it means the poor MPs have to do without their second home allowances Etc etc etc.

not sure about the pilot but definately August 1940. The cloud patterns in the background are unmistakeable. Why have you not copyrighted it?

Just for you Ian and as everyone else seems to be doing it. :diablo:

Well, that photo certainly had me foxed for a while. Then, of course, I realised why that impossibly good looking pilot was strangely familiar.

Advertising? Good heavens! Not on this forum, surely? I haven’t seen any blatant advertising here for….oohhh…at least the last three or four threads, Graham!

Well of coarse I dont look quite so good these days it was taken 70 years ago, let me see now that makes me 116 I reckon I have aged quite well really would you like to buy the original?? I can say its 100% I made it this morning uhhh I mean found it in my collection. ๐Ÿ˜€

You have it Graham. Although Mrs H was sufficiently impressed with an ejector seat to help carry it up to our old top floor flat. It had taken three air cadets just to get it in my Fiesta. Based on your excellent example, Tony, I had tried to persuede Her into a Seafire cockpit shaped sofa arrangement but it was not to be. Panels on the wall and a blade at the bottom of the stairs is as far as it goes.

You have an understanding Wife mine said “Get a shed or a divorce its your choise”

LOL – perhaps we should open a joint thread offering each others parts for sale!

Thats a great idea I’ll call myself The real Andy Saunders that will add credibility to our joint venture. ๐Ÿ˜€

I agree, this is very much a worst-case scenario but the total speed loss will remain the same whether it is fired in one long burst (of about 5 seconds) or multiple short bursts with time to accelerate in between.

I donโ€™t think the power of the engine would manage to reduce the speed loss much during firing; acceleration would be poor near the top speed and firing durations are extremely short.

The whole exercise was really to demonstrate that firing these cannon wouldnโ€™t โ€˜stop the Lysander deadโ€™ but I must admit that I hadnโ€™t realised until I just looked it up that the Lysander was quite so slow with a maximum speed of only 212mph.

Not really about if it stopped dead. Which of coarse it would not, its the effect it had on sighting and handling and I think you have proved there would be an issue there.:)
