So, I believe, were the Poles.

Quite a mute point considering the war started over Poland and it was then abandoned to the Russians.
Stalin hated the Poles as much if not more than Hitler due to the defeat they inflicted on Russia whan Stalin was minister of the military.
The way the Polish Pilots were treated after the war by both Britain and Russia was totally unacceptable.
Thanks for all the posts. I have to say at this stage I am a little disappointed.
I have seen the type of Trolleys shown, I was told specifically when I bought this it was pre war precisely because it had wire wheels and mud guards.
The wheels of coarse could have been added anytime but the mud guards look in keeping with the rest of the trolley and have clearly been attached for some time.
Also none of the trolleys shown have these brackets, is it possible this is an earlier model or is it 100% the wrong wheels?
Some good news I do have the correct generator unit that sits on the box, I will also post a picture tomorrow of a starter generator that I have never seen before, luckily it has an aiministry plate on it. Think its dated 37 will have to wait until tomorrow to get a picture.
Does anyone have pictures of the front so I can see what is missing and a wiring diagram or a pic of the internals would be brilliant?
Hello New Guy
Could you expand a little on your role in the film/screen play. I am a little confused as you emailed me through a different website and said you were doing a screen play. Obviously there is a big difference between a screen play and a movie.
What exactly is your role? are you the writer or a director ? You say there is no funding yet?
It also seems a bit of a strange project for the US film industry all the recent war films i have seen or been involved in a very modest way, comming out of the states have featured American heros and I have been told there really is no market for films featureing English War vets in the US market are you intending to release here or the US?
You will forgive my questions you see Bob Tuck is an icon for us Brits and your intentions all seema bit vague?
I would question whether such a hand drawn piece of equipment would ever have made such a turn of speed that it would require mudguards?
I notice that the hubs have very small knock on/off hub nuts, might these wheels and mudguards have been fitted to a very early car?
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/trailers.htm
Are the hubs of the wheels splined onto a shaft? Any markings on the hub nut?
Just read the link it seems this type of wheel dates from the 30s, could this be an early attempt at the ACC Trolley using readilyavailable wheels?
If the original wheels were replaced i would expect a post 40 style wheel?

You make a very good point about the mud guards, the wheels look identical to the ones in your picture with small spinners I will check the hubs for marks tomorrow. One thing that puzzles me though if it had been converted into a trailer for towing where is the tow hitch and it still has its third wheel quite impossible to tow at speed, so why put different wheels and add a mud guard?
Exactly my point Graham.
Do keep up:D

We seem to have found some mutual ground Kev quite an achievement considering our past sparing matches.:)
No one can question the bravery or achievements of the Russian soldiers on the ground but as to the US not using the A Bomb on Moscow I hardy think the fact they were an “Ally” figured strongly in their reasoning. I think Both Sir W Churchill and the US would have liked to be rid of Stalin and may have considered a pre emptive strike on Russia to achieve this.
How ever I think both governments knew the people simply would not have stood for an extension of the war and the suffering it caused and thank God it never happened.
As to Sir W Churchill leaving the Polish out of the victory parade and other shamefull acts because he didn’t want to offend Stalin is a step to far in the appeasement of a monster that murdered nearly as many people as Hitler.
I don’t mind answering your questions, Graham. Everyone here has been very forthcoming and an explanation is probably due.
This is a project I began of my own volition. I have no relationship to Hollywood at all.
You seem to be confused about the difference between a screenplay and a film. A screenplay is a script written specifically for film. A blueprint. It contains all the scenes, characters, and dialogue the film will contain.
I was introduced to Tuck’s story about 15 years ago by my father. I’ve had an interest in aircraft and flying all my life, and Tuck’s story made a big impression. In fact, until I read Fly For Your Life, I knew virtually nothing about the Battle of Britain. In the last few years I’ve become involved in independent films, including some acting (among other things).
During that time, I discovered that anyone can write a “spec” screenplay, which is a screenplay not commisioned by a production company. I also discovered that a well-written spec about a well-chosen subject stands a better than average chance of being made into a film. It seemed as though no one else was going to do it, and I’d always thought Tuck’s story would make a good film, so I began looking into the legal aspects of acquiring the rights to do a film based on someone else’s work — the book in this case. Nearly a year later, I had an agreement and got to work.
While working on my script, I contacted various companies and people that I thought might want to help me get the film made. Each one has responded with the same enthusiasm I’ve found in this group. One of them has indicated a possible source of funding.
My intention is for this to be produced in the UK, using primarily British actors, a British production company, and British crew. I am well aware of British feelings toward Tuck and his contemporaries, as well as their aircraft. As far as I’m concerned, the Brits have the sole right to help me tell the story. They know the aircraft, the men, and the history better than anyone.
Having said all that, you must understand that without a good script it is pointless to approach anyone for funding. That is why I’m here. I want this to be accurate. In my part of the world, the only thing most people know about the relationship between England and WW2 is that London got bombed. I’m an American who now understands what happened, what England went though, and how different the outcome nearly was.
I want the rest of the world to know. Or at least to be reminded.
I hope that helps.
P.S. I have no intention of directing. That’s way beyond my abilites.
Thankyou that clarifies things somewhat, its certainly a big ambition and I hope you find someone prepared to fund it, probably your best bet would be to approach Peter Jackson. If you PM me I can help with some contact info.
Hi have seen very similar units in armoured cars/tanks.
cheers dave
Thanks Dave
I was told it was recovered from the English channel by the chaps Grandad although from the condition it seems unlikely.
Graham
Being as this is the spitfire forum 😀
Here is a pic from Spitfire MkV Aces by Alfred Price.
Also thought it would be useful for your project and answering an earlier query of yours !
Please note the 2 tradesmen (fitter and rigger) and what is probably a ‘gash’ trade ‘fairy’ delving into the radio hatch (note clean uniform 😀 )
Trolley Acc with Chore Horse on top and very military wheels
Thanks Baz thats a great picture.
Here are some more pictures of the wheels. i am beginning to think they are original to this trolley. If you look closely you can see the remains of RAF blue on the rims. They are of the right period and the trolley has not been modified as a towing trailer.
The other pics are of a very early generator for charging accumulators. The wheels on this are an added MOD from the base it was clearly designed to be bolted onto a solid base.
To me as I have stated before this is just tired old Cold War rhetoric – Poland may have come out of WW2 a loser however prior to the war she was not exactly lily-white herself. The process akin to ethnic cleansing directed at Germans after WW1 in some of the western parts of Poland and Poland’s quick grab of some Czechoslovakian territory after the occupation by Germany in early 1939 spring to mind.
We tend to see eastern European affairs through a slightly rosy western democratic haze, when in fact all of the eastern European countries were blithely absorbing, exterminating or just generally making life unpleasant for ethnic minorities for most of the period leading up to WW2. Germany and Russia just took it to a new level of brutality.
However to suggest that the West should have nuked Moscow because of Poland is just plain idiotic – we tend to forget that it was the Russian infantry who beat Germany and won WW2 in Europe for which we owe the millions and millions of Russians who died an eternal debt of gratitude. In comparison we just provided some, albeit, bloody sideshows and in reality we had at best only one bomb available which would have inflicted minimal damage on Moscow while the Russians had in place in Europe sufficient forces which they would have used to chase the Allies back to Canada in retaliation. To have risked that outcome over Poland is not only plain idiotic but would have been suicidal.
The Cold War has been over for 20 years – let the thing rest.
I think you should read the posts properly no one has suggesting nuking Russia to save Poland. To suggest that Russia defeated the Germans single handed in Europe is idiotic. Perhaps you should tell that to all the merchant men that died taking supplies to the Russians? If you dont like the subject dont contribute
Is anybody there all have you all gone to bed????????? Wake up Australia 😀
Shouldn’t this thread should be brought to ‘heel’, or at least ‘bend the knee’.
Some people just have to put their Foot in it dont they! 😮
Why not for Public display ?. To me Douglas Bader was a British Icon of a generation of heroes , and its a shame there arnt too many people like him around today, so they should be on display. without being ghoulish i would like to see them.
The condition of the donation was that they were not displayed.
Millom/Robert your trolleys are both post war and relatively common Mk.Vs.
Now yours Graham may be a bit rarer than I first thought. The controls for your ‘acc’ are bolted onto the end of the box while all other surviving ‘accs’ they are located on a additional smaller box.
There is a nice photo of the type you’ve got on the back of the book ‘A History of the RAF Servicing Commandos’ (sorry I don’t have a scanner) but as far as I know you may have the only example of that type around!
Anne
Thanks Anne
Thats exactly what i was told when i bought it. Can you confirm the wheels are original ? they certainly have RAF blue paint on them. Could really use a picture so i can restore it, will have a search for that book..
