I hope you are right in all accounts….we will just have to wait and see…
Btw, to return to your initial thread subject, how about some L class ships from Holland? I believe there are even a lot of common parts with the S class vessels we ‘ve got. I think there may be some available in a couple of years (any new ship won’t be available for at least 4-5 years after the contracts are signed).
Remember Dianekes, these purchases (F1652s and U214s) were made about 5 years ago. How about 5 years from now? Where are the Typhoons for the replacement of the F16s in an Air superiority role (I guess the F16s are going to replace the A7s in the Air to Ground role)? The Turks are planning to upgrade almost ALL of their F16s in the F1652+ version. What are we expecting? To try and turn the scale with a purchase of 150-200 planes in 5 years from now? That is impossible. The past has shown that in order to keep the arms balance between us and the Turks, there has to be a constant strategic planning in our hardware purchases. We had Arsenis for 3 years in the MD and the balance went to hell. Now again with these training accounting magicians I think we have another thing coming….and it won’t be good….
After all, in the aftermath of the parliamentary commision meetings for the TORs and the TPQ radar, the officers are almost afraid to put their signature on a purchase contract (even on a suggestion note)
There is some talk for a new frigate type ship that will replace the canseled frigate-corvete plan. The ship must have enhanced area A/A capabilities to support the fleet. So far though, nothing is official and the way the new D.M. is functioning along with the cooking in the accounting processes, I doubt there will be any new ship purchase for some years to come… 🙁
Once again the Hellenic Armed Forces came close to achieve a level of equilibrium with the relevant Turkish forces and once again due to political inactivity, we will lose it big time. (No new ships, no new planes, actually not anything was orderd for 2004 and hardly anything will be ordered in 2005, because if ordered it has to be accounted for inside 2005 and there are no money left………..)
Camouflaged Dusters
There are some more shots of those in the PKR magazine I got. But look like they are not the only ones to use those planes. Apart from Hellenic AF with their M-18, even Venezuelan GN use camouflaged examples.
Can you post any of these pictures? And also any picture from the Venezuelan examples?
Wish list
I wonder if anyone can find me some photos (color would be great) of the duster planes flown by Croatia during the war of 1991, with the camouflage applied during that time. I allready have some photos found in the Insignia Magazine but I am looking for more info. The planes were PZL M18 Dromader, PA25 Piper Pawnee and Cessna 188 Agtrucks.
Thank you.
Galeb
I Believe this is a Serbian Galeb in the time of the Croatian and Bosnian war (circa 1991).
Question over roundel
Does anyone know which country’s airforce uses the light blue reversed triangle with a star in the middle as a roundel for its airforce? I saw the picture of a Strikemaster (?) with this roundel in the Small airforces pics — Part I and can not figure out the country. Is it Djibuti?
No. The Navy’s plans for up to year 2015 call for 4 Zubr and 5 LSTs (Jason class). So there won’t be any additional orders.
Greek load for the Zubrs
Guys from what I have seen in recent exercises of the Hellenic Armed Forces, the usual load for the Zubrs is :
1 Leo 1A5
2 M113A1s and 2-4 HUMVEEs along with a company of Marines.
There are 3 Zubrs bought from Russia and 1 from Ukraine. The second Zubr from Ukraine was never accepted due to technical problems and thus there was the 3rd ship ordered from Russia. In fact, the ship from Russia was given the same name as the rejected ship from Ukraine (PTM Kerkyra).
