I must say that looks fantastic, its looking just like the real thing, very well done
I’m just about refraining from saying ‘Did I miss Duxford…for this’
the parking was shambolic, even for a first show, me Dad stood in a que for food for 2 hours (not the organisers fault though I know)
and of course the Vulcan display never materialised (the thing my Dad and I had both mainly gone to see) I know that wasn’t the organisers fault either but still, it was just plain (no joke intended) annoying.
There were redeeming features such as the Spitfire display, the pyrotechnics accompanied Great War display (see another thread of mine about Duxford and Pyrotechnics), and it had a neat selection of participants when all said and done.
The Boscombe down collection was smashing, I only wish I had had more time to look about it (living in Herts its a fair journey home so we had to leave earlyish)
That said, we’re debating whether attending it again if it is on next year (minus the Vulcan crowd who the majority of the shows audience and left by the end).
I have only attended Duxford shows in the past so this was new, and in many respects didn’t bode well for breaking our Duxford loyalty xD
Interesting that, I’ve only once met a girl interested in planes, well potentially a second today as a matter of fact.
Now I’m all for gender equality and all, but at least in my limited view the gender stereotype of girls not liking aircraft seems to be upheld by the majority!
I would’ve gone to Duxford later in the month if A, tickets had been available, and B, The Vulcan had been at Dux too.
I’m mainly going for the Vulcan tbh…the ‘Battle of Britain’ aspect…which to me is important considering the anniversary, is pretty poor; ok it has a Mk1 hurri, but just that and a D-Day marked spitfire ix…not quite 20 spits or whatever’s at Dux
How long is it supposed to be, with only 14 participants listed thus far (and likely no more at this late stage)?
Is there any danger of it being restored soon? Whether in Spanish markings or (my preferred) German markings.
Mind you it’d take an age to move the stored airframes around…I’m sure many would be happy to help though
Where are all the parts, do they even survive in deep storage?
I have to say, the few shows I’ve been to at Duxford (not Legends I admit) I have quite enjoyed the informative commentary by Ben Dunnel and Colin Wilsher
Please let us not gripe about the Telegraph (or any media) again, yes in general they are complete Cretins, but none of us mortal souls can alter that I doubt
That’s a coincidence, I’ looking at Old Sarum too, I’m just debating whether to go there or Duxford
At least it isn’t, “5 DAYS AFTER SHOREHAM….AN ACTUAL AIRSHOW AT CLACTON, FURY AS THESE THINGS STILL EXIST!”
An article by L.Iar
I’m debating what to do, two airshows with excellent reasons to go to either
Thanks for that, I’ll give it a try
Thanks, that could be a very good idea, would you happen to know contact information for Mr Munn?
A verse
At Shoreham show, August 22, it was a fateful day.
For as a tragedy occurred, 11 lives taken away.
As by cruel fate a plane went down, in seconds to the ground.
And after the great blinding blast, there was not one small sound.
In horror many stood and stared as others looked away.
For as a tragedy occurred, 11 lives taken away.
The media was quick to come as pictures went online.
The footage too flooded in, the line of taste quite fine.
Who wished to be reminded, of that hellish day?
When tragedy occurred, 11 lives taken away.
Speculation did run rife o’er the daily news.
There was much strong embellishment,
The focus some did lose.
For what must be remembered, is to think of those who died.
And not the papers and TV, and whether on some aspects they had lied.
We must stand strong with those bereaved, and by their sides must stay
To help them to remember, the 11 lives taken away.
No matter what did cause the crash, no matter what conclusion is found.
It cannot change the past, as good as that does sound.
For all those lost, do rest on high.
At Peace under the clouded sky.
So when the press has moved along to stories new again
The memories of those lost most surely shall remain.
Remember Shoreham Airshow, on that fateful day
When tragedy occurred, 11 lives taken away.
