Isn’t it merely an inspection hatch? Something to do with the radio maybe?
Thank you Blue Max!
Who offered the BE to you? Do you have any pictures of it in its current state?
Don’t a couple of the radio controlled models survive somewhere?
Sorry to drag up this old thread, but I have just been re-watching this series again, and I wondered what happened to the Replica Albatros CI used for ground/taxiing/cockpit shots and the non airworthy BE2C replica(s) used for the same purposes. Did they survive? Do they still survive hidden somewhere? Are there any pictures of them post-Wings?
I’d say a 217, you can make out the rear-facing machine gun gondola below and behind the cockpit.
They should make a series of ‘Damned Good Show’ another Robinson book worth reading.
We will remember them, for their courage, bravery and in many cases, their sacrifice.
My relative was killed after just a bit after D-Day I believe, having landed by glider. I was told he was a medic and was killed whilst attempting to help another soldier carrying a radio, who was injured by the same sniper that ultimately killed him.
RIP
Cox: Is that you, Moggy?
‘Moggy’: Yes, indeed as I live and breathe. You okay?
Cox: I’ve lost my fingers!
‘Moggy’: That’s a bit careless, old boy. Have you ever seen Peter Pan?
Cox: What do you mean?
‘Moggy’: Well, don’t you remember Captain Hook? I mean, he got by. I think they can do anything these days
Saw the wonderful Blenheim Mk I fly over St Albans in the direction of Hatfield today, quite low and with a lovely roar of Bristol engines.
Isn’t there a surviving airlift C54 or DC4 at North Weald, one that wasn’t scrapped, or am I getting muddled?
On a brief glance of preserved Messengers, G-AKVZ has a full ‘rear window’.
Of course the rear window of G-AKBO could’ve been painted over post-film?
Are you sure it say Amiens? I mean N and M do look similar I guess, but the ‘N’ looks pretty much identical to the ‘M’ if that’s what they are, I know there’s no such place as Amiems but then maybe it isn’t Amiens because I can’t see an ‘S’ on the end of the word, as hard as I look?
That Buchon looks well on the way to flight!…the P47 is nice too. :p
I never realised the size of them before!
Wings does have a point, the ranting and stuff did wreak of middle-aged misogynism, But the rest was very interesting reading about the Bluebird. The pictures were most intriguing too.
It’ll be great to see the type run again eventually!
An astounding bit of craftsmanship there! Well done to all involved in it’s creation, particularly the weathering and other details 🙂
