As with most things, John, you are quite wrong about whether David Davis would have made a good PM. He couldn’t gain enough support amongst his peers to become Party Leader, so did not have the confidence of the Parlimentary party let alone the electorate.
He has some redeeming qualities, opposition to university tuition fees for example, but most are not evident in his behaviour at the present time.
Interesting article in the Independent online (yes really) about the rising intolerance of alternative political views expressed in our wonderful right wing tabloids.
http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/daily-mail-brexit-daily-express-the-sun-tabloids-language-political-intolerance-traitors-a7357591.html
These newspapers and their commentators are implying that those who disagree with them should be silenced, locked up even. That we are traitors.
The Mail and the Express seem to have decided they simply do not recognise the legitimacy of people who have a different political position.
These newspapers preen themselves as champions of free speech and traditional British liberties. Yet they are seeking to delegitimise contrary political views, to silence them through intimidation and the implied threat of violence.
To suggest that people should be locked up because they hold an alternative view to their own is surely not something anyone should accept in our ‘free’ society
I don’t give a toss what colour my passport is.
I just hope if they do change it when mine expires in 4 years or so they keep the smaller format as it is much more convenient than the old bulky blue/black one
Excellent. Thanks for posting, I had the time to watch it all this morning and it is well worth 45 mins of anyones time if you have an interest in this area. Particularly interesting is the section on air support and it’s effectiveness- morale boosting rather than actual damage caused.
A significant number (how many? I don’t know, I did not count them) of columnists and commentators in and on the media have recorded their dismay at the rather blatant partiality of the BBC.
That may be because you only see what you want to see in the Right Wing press. If you only read those papers, look at websites or watch Sky news that have a bias against the BBC then it will reinforce your own position.
those with a more neutral position may see something different
To my understanding and maybe that of others, you do, on occasion, make it up as you go along. I do not think that you are necessarily conscious of this, at least all the time.
I think that there is a possibility that you are so consumed by your own propaganda, that you blind yourself to the possibility that others are just as capable of meaningful but different thought.
I really do think you should look in the mirror and reflect that the same comments apply equally to your “musings” on many occasions John. It is all a matter of perspective.
Looks like an admirable example of ‘cherrypicking’ propaganda to suit the occasion.
Strange, I didn’t see it in the Telegraph? They must be slacking.
It’s just a guess but, I rather thought that there were about 2 million of us daily who credited the D. Tel. with credibility
.
Just shows 2m people can be blinkered doesn’t it? I actually meant in the context of this forum as you seem to be the only one who quotes it as a credible source
I hope I haven’t misjudged you.
It’s your default position Pinko, misjudging people. It also shows you have memory issues
It could be because you are the only one who regards the D.Tel as a reliable source.
Theare are alternative points of view. You pays your money…..
Just saying……
Project Fear it ain’t. Another expert in semantics; the electorate voted for Brexit; at that point we effectively left the EU. Do not split hairs – it doesn’t become you !
No, we are still a member of the EU. It is not semantics, it is law. Until Article 50 is invoked.
Interesting that MG are going production of their cars at Longbridge citing the drop in the value of the pound ( due to the vote) and the prospect of Britain leaving the EU.
He’ll be back. We need brilliant and accomplished politicians like him. It is unfortunate that there are so few around. Altho’ I suppose Jeremy is a pretty good stopgap.
OK, it’s Friday and I’m in a generous mood so just this once I’ll respond in a way you no doubt intended to provoke..
That is your opinion of him. Not mine. Nor the opinion of anyone I respect ( so I guess that means….)
To me he has been a loudmouthed unprincipled shyster. With a limited grasp of moral boundaries Who thinks only of his own advancement at the expense of people less fortunate than himself.
Typical right wing politician in other words.
He won’t be missed
Bye Nige
don’t forget to close the door on the way out
Well, if there are going to be 52 Union Flags for every 48 EU flags it would send a message perhaps?
But as you say :sleeping::sleeping:
read this then again trekbuster. Probably the Immigrants have a poor command of spelling(apart from Scania,Volvo,Iveco and other trucks!)
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3770523/Oliver-Amelia-popular-baby-names.html
But its the Daily Heil therefore not exactly reliable reporting
And as afar is it being the Immigrants having poor spelling two points
First: many of the Mohammed’s are likely to have been born to people who themselves were born here so are not immigrants.
Second: The Point I tried to make is that the reason there are different spellings of Mohamed are mainly because the children come from different ethnic backgrounds within muslim communities -for example Muxamed is Somali in origin, Mohammed Egyptian. in the same way Owen and and Eoin are both spellings from the same (essentially Celtic Christian) root but one is Irish the other Welsh
Re #805 As for me being away, Pinko, I never really left, just been chuckling away privately at the utter pish rather than constantly commenting.
Rather than the rather tastless comment above, it may be worth looking at the actual results published.
the official list doesn’t have Mohammed in the top ten but the Daily Fail, Sun, Express , are adding all the available spellings of the name to prove their ‘point’
If the same was done for John eg. to include all those who chose to call their sons Johnnie, Johan, Jack, Jean, Giovanni, Eoin, etc. I am sure it would also exceed Oliver.
