Why would it be quieter without the Vulcan if the show is an all-ticket event, sold out well in advance?

Because those only turning up for the Vulcan might well not bother if they know it isn’t going to show, even though they may have paid £22.50.

She’s unique, British, noisy and still flying. Doesn’t that make her worthy of attending?

Not by itself, no. I can see why others are attracted, but personally, doesn’t float my boat

You’ll miss her when she’s gone.

    No, I won’t (see above)

Interesting discussion about this on SVAS faceplant site.
Some say it is ideal as it draws in the punters, who may not initially have much interest in anything but the triangular begging bowl but may well then return once they have enjoyed the day. There is some anecdotal evidence to support this from the last time it was there.
Others say it is a money grubbing excercise and will destroy the unique atmosphere of the uncovered show-difficult to see how they can allocate all the space for the aircraft in the usual carparking areawith the anticipated crowds?
Some resent the ‘blackmail’ involved in getting SVAS members to buy a ticket at the show yesterday in the anticipation of the ‘rush’, and whilst the announcers were saying the tickets would only be available from this morning, they could be purchased on line yesterday from about midday.

It is easy to see both sides of this argument. I for one am a bit miffed as I had arranged provisionally to take my father to the show as a birthday treat- he couldn’t go yesterday unfortunately-and now it seems that it will be a bit crowded, but I can see the advantages for the collection in getting all the money up front to aid their balance sheet this year. I just hope that they don’t get in the habit of trying for advanced sales only. It also means I will break my avowed intention of not seeing it fly since the whole vtts thing started

    Edit:
On a purely selfish level I am guilty to admit that I am almost hoping that it goes ‘tech’ the day before and we will have a quieter event. But I know this is contemptible, will do my best to look on the bright side and hope all goes well for all concerned.

Interesting, yes, well argued, possibly, well balanced, not really.
I was amused by his statement ” where there is no far-Right party causing havoc in Parliament.” depends on your definition of far-right really. Just as the tory press and other media are trying to push the perceived centre to the right, compared to tory governments of the 60’s and early 70’s The current rabble are further rightward leaning. All depends on ones own perspective of course. Others seem to think they are limp wristed liberals

A comprehensively detailed report of the facts as currently known. We could have expected no more and perhaps be surprised that so much has been released so quickly.

I wonder how much if any media coverage it will receive.

The Torygraph certainlys believe they know where to point their finger

The canopy was designed in that way to give the instructor, who sat in the back seat, some forward vision.

If Eric Brown’s experience is anything to go by, vision from the rear seat is minimal when landing. He once tried flying one solo from the rear seat. I don’t think he enjoyed the landing phase much.

Careful Silver Fox, you are showing the same prejudice towards Boris, as many on the opposite side are to JC. i am always amused that so many believe the real Boris is the bumbling fool he often portrays. Don’t underestimate either of them..

I agree with Silver fox, in my experience Boris’ support even with tories that I know is inversely proportional to the distance voters are from London. Far too London/homecounties centric

You could contact Jean Munn at the Shuttleworth Collection, they have had two BE’s operating there recently and I believe he flew one of them there, or WAHT who are operating them now

Trekkie. If you get the chance, have a go on a rifle range. It’s a very challenging hobby.and fun, Even if it’s only a ’22. (Even better if you can get your hands on a 457 Magnum.)
    Jim.
    Lincoln .7

Thanks, but no thanks. I’d rather spend the time (and money) on my bikes, or travelling to airshows, or the dog, or……
It is one of those pastimes, like golf or watching cricket that I can vaguely see the attraction of, but am very content to let others do and enjoy.
