Suspect judgement? Au contraire Greenie. In my opinion, he was a wooden actor and a somnambulist president, particularly in the second term. Did any one really believe he knew nothing of the Iran-Contra affair? He funded what became al-qaeda in the 1980’s, and tripled the US national debt when in office even though he raised taxes in seven of the eight years in office. He gave nearly 8 million undocumented workers amnesty, most of whom were illegal immigrants- what would be said if that happened here?

And Grenada, he invaded a country that retained the Queen as head of state. Even his lapdog Thatcher thought that was a step to far. She said:
“This action will be seen as intervention by a Western country in the internal affairs of a small independent nation, however unattractive its regime. I ask you to consider this in the context of our wider East/West relations and of the fact that we will be having in the next few days to present to our Parliament and people the sighting of Cruise missiles in this country. I must ask you to think most carefully about these points. I cannot conceal that I am deeply disturbed by your latest communication. You asked for my advice. I have set it out and hope that even at this late stage you will take it into account before events are irrevocable.” It turned out that while this conversation was taking place, so was the invasion. Not exactly honest.

I didn’t read beyond “one of my favourite presidents…..”

Anyone who thought Regan was a good president was obviously a fantasist from the start

Provided the tests of which you speak are actually applied. Hardly a day goes past without some report of medical incompetance or negligence.

In the Daily Mail maybe. That rag is the worst culprit in denegrating medical staff. Through the pressure from Paul Dacre who has a congenital dislike of any nationalised service, their ‘journalists’ cannot be trusted to offer objective reporting. Just look at Paul Johnsons piece about Clare Gerada today.

I once had a long talk to a Daily Mail journalist, she happened to be writing for the women’s section. The pressure they were under to give any ‘news’ story a particular spin actually led her to quit in disgust. I am sure this happens in other papers, just ask Peter Oborne, but if one cannot recognise this in the sources one reads it is likely to lead to a very skewed perspective

I think it is a little more thorough than that. All new doctors must complete an English test and a skills test, whatever their qualifications, real or imagined. Whilst the skill test is allegedly not as stringent as the UK qualifications, one would not be able to pass with a fake certificate.

Dave’s latest speech again shows politicians lack of understanding of the true issues. How do they get it so wrong?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/nhs/11611478/Seven-day-NHS-will-be-created-with-thousands-more-GPs-David-Cameron-to-say.html

Cloud cuckoo land. Where are the GP’s going to come from? There is a real recruitment crisis that is going to take longer than 5 years to turn around, and the politicians and press bear a great deal of the responsibility for the lack of doctors in training deciding to choose this career route. In two local rural practices, one had only three people apply for a vacant post, none of whom were suitable, another had no applications. At all. Zip, nada, niente

    Trekkie, old chap,

No one can take you at all seriously if you persist in quoting out of context.

Have you heard of the phrase “tongue in cheek” Old Boy?, it was a JOKE……

The most important issue was the NHS in the final run up to the election according to IPSOS/MORI, immigration second

    https://www.ipsos-mori.com/researchpublications/researcharchive/3566/EconomistIpsos-MORI-April-2015-Issues-Index.aspx

And immigration was only fourth on what would determine voting behavior

nearly four million xenophobic, rascist, fruitcake, loonies.

    .

Finally something we can agree on, although to be fair, not all are likely to be racist.

Seriously though, I doubt very much if all of those who voted UKIP agreed with all of their policies, and like the SNP / referendum vote, I would be surprised if all who voted in the 2015 election for UKIP would vote to leave the EU in the proposed referendum. Most, but not all, as some are likely to have used it as a protest vote.
