I’m sure they’re thankful for your support.
I was a print subscriber for well over 10 years until I found the articles were moving away from my area of interest.
Define VTTS success? I admire their tenacity at getting people to donate over and over again with the perpetual crises announced in the media, I also admire the effort of those who have managed to maintain it in airworthy condition.
But, as others have indicated in other posts on this thread, most people still seem unaware of the Vulcan fleets’ context, they just seem to like a loud pointy thing. This is fair enough, and it is great that some others seem to love the aircraft but does it merit the hagiography?
As for believing media accounts, my own personal experience of the media reporting on things I have been involved with and know about would suggest it is best to retain an open mind. Hence the original question I posted.
There are two sides to every story. The truth is usually somewhere between the two. 🙂
The magazine which sponsors this forum has said that there was a “Vulcan effect”. Really, does anyone here actually read the thing?
No, I don’t actually. Gave up,years ago
And the point I was trying to make is that the organisers believed there was an effect but can we ever be sure?
I haven’t seen it fly, I was at a show it was booked to go to once but…..it didn’t arrive. I wasn’t there to see it so wasn’t bothered.
Is there much hard evidence that having the Vulcan attend a show boosted numbers visiting significantly? That ‘ordinary punters’ (whoever they might be) went just because it was there?
Or is the Emperors’ New Clothes syndrome?
I am sure there was a Sandringham moored off Hythe in the mid/late 1980’s-I would hazard a guess at 1987 or 1988 purely because of when I bought the boat-as I sailed round it a couple of times in my Solo dinghy whilst I was a member of the Weston Sailing Club. Which would this one have been?
It emerged about three years ago, and seems to have done a vanishing act ever since! A great shame since I was looking forward to seeing it at airshows. Not holding out any hopes!
I had heard (Third hand) that it had engine issues, mostly paperwork related, and these were to be resolved “soon”
This is what my brother had to say about the BBC article:
“This is so depressingly poorly researched-Good in parts I think is generous”
Sums it up for me
Two aircrew survivors may be more accurate
I enjoyed the program, although some of the introduction was also poorly researched-probably by the same person as the written piece
I’d rather see the Fiat CR42 completed before yet another Spitfire or the Sea Fury
I don’t have a business brain to explain the advantages of adjusting branding but in my opinion the change is successful, the old logo of the head on shot of the Triplane was too busy for easy reproduction, the typeface was hard to read. The new one has an Art Deco feel which is appropriate for a large percentage of the collection and is far easier to reproduce.
However, having made the decision to replace it, they really should go through the website and change all of the old versions, it looks poor in that respect at the moment.
For iPad , If you wish to get a link to paste, press finger on the box at top centre, this will show whole url which can then be selected, copied and pasted
So link for above course is:

This was written on my iPad
I enjoyed it but may have preferred more about the skills involved in making the fuselage for example but I fully understand the restrictions as outlined above.
Guy Martin came across very well as did all involved TBH
A friend of mine just emailed me a question about the programme and it was clear he had watched almost all of it….
This is a guy who usually yawns within 2 secs of me mentioning anything aviation or engineering related and changes the subject immediately, so for it to engage him to that extent was a triumph for the programme makers.
Well done all involved
Edit:
The question related to how much of the plane that was recovered from the beach actually flew. He also expressed amazement about the cost of the airscrew-I couldn’t answer the first question beyond ‘not much’ and spent a few minutes talking about economies of scale in reproducing 75 year old technology for a very few items-in itself a minor miracle
Just remind me, which flavour of government was it that axed the Harrier and decimated the regular army?
For me, losing the Red Arrows is less important than getting rid of the current load of self serving toffs.
IMHO of course, and in the spirit of providing balance
Funny how lots of people look at the photos but very few take the time to comment…
Why should you expect me to comment?
The images are OK but…
Are you posting the images to help those less fortunate than yourself get some pleasure from the event?
Or expecting praise every time?
The former is commendable, the latter……
I personally don’t feel qualified to comment on the technical quality of images I look at. So I don’t
The BBC is an excellent service that costs 41pence per day. What else gives that sort of value? For the average family that is 10 pence each per day. It is less than half the price of a daily newspaper of any quality. Only recently people were praising the quality of the program on Eric Brown. In my opinion it would be a massive loss to the country if the way it is funded and run independent of government or commercial interests is significantly changed. Commercial rivals such as the Daily Fail who rail against it have a vested interest in changing and plug their opinions without explaining they have significant investment in ITV for example.
Possible engine issues?
