This thread is simply out of question in terms of F-15 replacement. Mind it that every stealth platform is expensive to MAINTAIN even though MAKING costs become lower with increasing engineering efficiencies.
F-15 will remain in service & by the way have you heard about F-15 stealthy variant this alone proves my above point. US is taming their old birds to take the heat because the future wars will be against small rogue states & not the technology supreme Russians….
    UCAVS…thy can’t do dogfights..its just that simple:p

Well, as Iraq, Yugoslavia and now Lybia have proven, if you get to be the target of a large nation or coalition, there is no small airforce or large AA umbrella that can save your military (and civil) infrastructure…So why bother and spend all this money to purchases of missiles and planes and fuel and pilot training and not use it to improve domestic civil areas? In most cases, the arms purchases where the perfect aliby for officials in corrupt governments to get rich and nothing else.

What about Kosovo conflict; NATO can’t inflict much damage that what I can tell you & perhaps I suggest mobile SAMs with proper planning you can get advance conventional planes ike F-15/18s…
On topic: JF-17 plus J-10 loaded with Chinese AAMs like SD-10 will provide good & lethal air assault against any modern air vehicles [except Stealthy]. Plus if Chanvez can’t afford Russians SAMs they can opt for HQ-9 & HQ-10s which also are lethal

I feel the best option would be a single-engined fighter and my preference goes like this.

    1) J-10
    2) JF-17 (cheaper than the J-10, but low on capability compared to J-10)

    3) Tejas LCA (if ever it makes it)

But all these with Russian avionics & engine.

I did not chose MiG-35 onlly because it its twin-engined and what Serbia requires is a fighter that is low on acquisition as well as on operating cost. Else, MiG-35 would have been the perfect choice.

If Serbians are looking for front end fighters then JF-17 isn’t the best option nor is [or never is Tejas…its a crap anyway]. Our country produced such a plane to substitute the age old mirages & Sabers so we aren’t using this for front end fighter plane. However as this warfare moves to BVR rather than dog-fight oriented JF-17 with lots of SD-10 can be lethal

I hate when people put the JF17 against the MiG-29s & F-16. JF17 is only made to fill the space & do replace [gradually] the ageing fleets of Mirages & Sabres that we had till 60s

    Western planes at risk
    Full story: http://defencedog.blogspot.com/2011/03/manpads-in-libya-worries-west.html
The appearance of the supporters of the regime Gaddafi modern man-portable air defense systems Igla-S ” (SA-24 Grinch), mounted on pickup trucks are seriously worried Western military experts.

These MANPADS can shoot down planes coalition at altitudes up to 11,000 feet, is currently flying aircraft carried out at altitudes above 20,000 feet. But as soon begin humanitarian operations, evacuation and other missions requiring a reduction of aircraft and helicopters at low altitude, the use of MANPADS may result in an aircraft.
