TwinOtter23 – Any chance of some pictures next time you’re there?
Grahamm
I’d love to see your Southend pics. Did you used to work in ATC at the Airport?
Great pics, Graham…much better than Clive’s sunny, full frame ramp shots!

I’m fairly sure the Sea Fury was WJ288 (Coded 029) and the Lincoln was definitely G-APRJ. I flew in the Sea Fury last October in Memphis and caught up with the Lincoln in Melbourne…some pics on this page

Talk to Tiger Airways at Gloucester…they completed an amazing restoration on a Stampe that hadn’t flown for 30 years recently…fairly sure they’ve got a Jungmann in the hangar too…
Keep ’em coming Graham, top stuff!!
Seems to be a lot of us Essex boys on here? I remember watching the demolition of the Viewing Terrace when the Terminal was redeveloped in the late 80’s(?)…
No PN, I’m afraid…WE724, look forward to hearing from you…
Interesting piece. What’s going to happen to the CASA 1-11, I wonder?
I remember a Canadian Catalina staging through in the early Eighties, registration C-FHNH. The nearest it got to the beach though would have been about 2000ft vertically!
It’s an excellent thread Old Fart and I don’t think the ‘joke’ was intended to offend…I certainly appreciate your research and enjoy the various Essex threads to which you contribute.
I feel another new thread coming on….”I spent my formative years growing up near Southend Airport…” It seems there’s loads of us on this forum!
I was born in Rochford hospital (40 years ago in June) and have been fascinated by anything that flies since. Dad worked for Aviation Traders, took me to the Historic Aircraft Museum every Sunday and from the age of about 11 I spent every spare waking hour on the viewing terrace, playing Asteroids in the Terminal, in the car park or wading through the culvert the passed under the taxiway on the north side by the BAF Carvair. Discovered sex, drugs and rock’n’roll at some point and ditched the anorak and notebook but bought a camera. Drank in the bar (Butler’s Pantry?) and Flarepath Inevitably got a job there (in ATC) in 1989 and left in 1993 when Airports UK sold it to Regional Airports Ltd. Still in touch with former colleagues and generally drive past when I’m visiting family down that way.
There we go, I’m ‘out’ and I’m proud
The Jet Age Museum hopes to have its Horsa cockpit replica complete by then. We were privileged to welcome two former pilots, both aged 91, to see the project today. Ken Plowman and Leslie Kershaw spent several hours with us reminiscing. It was fascinating to see.

There you go…. Probably the UK’s most historically significant collection of aircraft.

Do you still possess the NF14?
Peter, yes. She’s lurking in the bushes behind the museum awaiting restoration.

Good point! I’ve only just realised that the image on the website is wrong! The museum’s example is as per the picture in the thread. The fuselage frame and u/c legs are just about complete. We have some more pieces to collect from Retro Track & Air, which will go on display beside her pending (long term) restoration.
