How long is it? I might have some suitable temporary accomodation…
According to the FAA website, the ex-Southend machine, now N156FS, is registered to Kermit Weeks as an exhibit.
Anybody know the current whereabouts of the ex-Southend example?
This was fun, last summer…..bonus point for guessing the type!!
AFAIK, it’s a posh, members only health club now…certainly was when I was there last about 2 years ago.
Following a sudden burst of nostalgia, thought I’d update the ‘Where are they now’ list as there have been a few changes in recent years:

I have a vague recollection of G-ANPE moving over to the Airport site (the sheds opposite what used to be Harvest Air) and being restored. I also have a Museum poster, which features drawings of Tiger G-ANPE, Gipsy Moth G-ATBL and Fox Moth G-ACEJ, but I don’t remember ever seeing them in the Museum.
Looking at the CAA Registrations website:
The insurance details were verifed today? and the ‘Change of C of A details in progress’ must mean they’re very close.
They’re in the ‘September Gallery’ link at http://www.flygloster.co.uk about 3 or 4 pages in. Not sure how to link directly to them?
Old Fart
Is the rebuild on G-AWHB really to flying condition? That’s not a task for the faint hearted! She was in an awful state when she left Southend in 1983, when I last saw her at North Weald around 3 years ago, a lot of cosmetic work had been done, but the wings were still languishing outside the hangar with severe corrosion.
My memories weren’t always happy ones.
Pouring rain (’84?), traffic chaos (sat in a queue for 2 hours), the T34 crash, Michael Thomas scoring for Arsenal in the 88th minute to win the League at Anfield (many beers downed that night, drowning my Liverpool sorrows and having the mother of all hangovers the next day) and, of course, the tragic Vintage Pair.
Ligtnings ‘scrambling’ to intercept Hawks was pretty special though.
At the risk of being flamed or barred for all eternity from the Forum, if anyone’s interested my Corgi Vulcan XL426 is up for grabs on ebay at the moment….
Too many models, not enough house….:(
