    Widgeon & Dragonfly

Taken circa 1985 outside the Helicopter Hire hangar at the Airport after the Museum had closed. (Don’t you sometimes wish you’d taken photography far more seriously 20 years ago!!)

I’m having a mental block now, was the Dragonfly in the Museum too?

I remember the Southend Museum well and also used to enjoy clambering over their exhibits as a kid.

The pictures don’t really do ‘PG justice, she’s in a pretty sorry state of affairs. Nevertheless, all her associated ancillaries are around in crates, and as you say, at least she’s undercover.

After the Southend Museum, she did end up at Brenzett, before being acquired by the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry. The plan was to restore her to static display and BAe’s Aero Structures department at Chadderton were enlisted to sponsor and conduct the work as a training exercise for their apprentices. I’m not sure why that project didn’t come to fruition, but I believe she’s now been owned by a charitable trust based at Hooton Park. It’s not a restoration for the faint hearted, but seeing as she was the first production civil Avro 19 Series 1, let’s hope it happens eventually.

The Jet Age Museum’s Anson has left Gloucestershire Airport. No idea where it went to.

G-AGPG taken in the Hangar at Hooton Park in August 2004. At least she’s under cover!

VM325 has been outside at Gloucestershire Airport for over 2 years, although may have moved in the last few weeks. I’ll check when I go to work today.

Many thanks. A friend is building a R/C model, and wanted replicate the armaments and firing as authentically as possible. Your information has been very useful.

Many thanks, that’s useful, but do you know whether all guns/cannons fired simultaneously or whether there was a starboard/port or inner/outer sequence?
