Many aircraft appear to be abandoned when the major engine overhaul is due, for a C150 that could cost $20k (about £13k) then you’ve got the prop and other bits and bobs to think about. It soon gets cheaper to buy another aircraft!
Maybe its been through an upgrade programme at some stage?
If you watch the TV rescue type programmes the winch man will say “winch to pilot” as it gets to the last few feet so the winch man will have both hands free to help whoever is on the cable into the aircraft,

The scrap metal dealers must take some responsibility for this issue – they must be aware that a van load of copper sheets or a pick up full of telephone cables hasn’t come from a legitimate source.
I’m not really up on marques and models and all that but was the Sea Harrier a vastly different aircraft to the Harriers that have just been withdrawn?
Might the “BIN 042” tag just be a storage location, meaning literally storage bin number 042?
I also think that unless you can use a fully stripped out cockpit then its going to be incredibly expensive. Almost every bit of it can be recovered and sold on – we’ve already been given the price that a single windscreen might fetch.

Apparently they have banned my IP address from that site! Most odd as I don’t think I’ve ever looked at it before!!
Isn’t it something like $6-$7 million dollars for each engine….
EN830 – that’s the most sensible post I’ve seen on this forum in ages.
Yes I should have mentioned that, it displays the strop dropping away quite nicely. Can you remember what film you saw the Vixens in?
It was that TV show that’s narrated by Harry Enfield, each one is a half hour episode and features two aircraft.

Any excuse to repost this fantastic bit of film showing Scimitars, Vixens, Gannets, & Whirlwinds (even a Skyraider right at the end!) on an early Hermes commission, http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=joluqa#p/search/0/LFzRtOuj5GQ
You can just about see the splash as the bridle drops into the sea (right at the edge of the frame), its a surprisingly long way from the ship as well.
