So as I see it its a win win scenario.

    That’s exactly how I see it too…

    And I’m a French.

I read that the French people ain’t that happy about the deal, they fear job losses and so and so.

@quadbike: the French people are NEVER happy.

    Period.

The IAF may have preferred the Rafale because it was easier to move on to it from planes like the Mirage 2000.

Good point: let’s remember that the Rafale had been designedwith the mirage 2000’s dimensions in mind with regards to the French airbases infrastructures dimensions…

That’s a consequence from the Mirage 4000’s experience: adopting it would have forced the French air force to rework entirely MANY of its airbases… Such considerations are often overlooked by aviation enthousiasts like us, but usually not by (usually) serious people in charge of an air force…

The IAF also has a supply of French missiles that could be re-used with the Rafale.

    Ideed, that too…

There’s nothing like a bit of indiginous manufacture and support in my book.

    Seconded, buddy! 😎

And what do the majority of voters favour instead?

Something like “we have no need for combat aircrafts”. Somme even say “… for armed forces”.

I don’t know how numerous they are, though…

Well what the UAE said about Dassault is quite humiliating, so Dassault “could” wish to take revenge in case of success in India, but that’s just me saying.

Well… Now, maybe the UAE have something to ponder about… ?

Loke predicts: In 2012 Rafale will finally get her first export order!

    *cough*

Can you also tell me the next National lottery winning number, please ? 😀

One question to everyone : Do you think the Typhoon would have won today if the Eurofighter Consortium had offered a better/lower price than the Rafale International ?

I my opinion: Yes. India has made clear enough that the lowest price would be the winner.

    *EDIT*

Ho! And you know what ? I’m happy.

New Air Defence Missile for Royal Navy

You seem to disagree (the “thumb down” of your post). What’s wrong with that ?

Here we go again: like in 2006 the rafale is used as a scarecrow by the UK to put some pressure on Lokheed-Martin. Despite it has been made pretty clear for years that the UK would rather die than by anything even remotely related to France… but the joke seems to still work to this day.

What bother me is that most people, here, seem to find absolutely hilarious the fact that France may have to cut its military spendings…

To say nothing about the use of the word “Frenchies”…

I feel bad talking about this in a military aviation forum, but everyone else is and issues need addressing:

    1) Its hard to calculate the GDP of Scotland alone as it is part of the UK, how does income from the likes of RBS etc split between the borders?

    2) Even harder to tell and not answerable at this point as it will depend heavily on negotiations with the UK in issues like what % of national debt it would take and what the long term effect being separate from the UK in terms of resources/investment etc. No one can answer that so people on either side of the discussion take their preferred answers. As far as Salmond is concerned the moment Scotland is independent the whole world will drop investment in the UK for the nicer nation of Scotland and the better financial hub of Edinburgh over London. I doubt things will play the way the SNP have said at all.

    3) See above, linked to GDP, but Salmond strikes me as the type to go on a spending splurge to prove how much better independence is and then let the next administration deal with the real reality. Sounds a lot like Gordon Brown to me….

You are right, my questions where a bit off-topic. But thanks a lot for your answers… 🙂

Well I’m tryuing to be constructive by asking:

    1/What is Scotland’s current GNP ?

2/How may it be affected by Scotish independance ?

3/What would be the government budget in an independant Sctoland ?

Also, I read somewhere (can’t remember where) that in case of independance, the Scottish defence policy / armed forces would be more akin to that of Norway. How would such a defence policy apply to Scotland ?
