So we are buying a sub which neither of manufactering nations being France and Spain are buying themselves.

All I can say about the French Navy is that it does want nuclear submarines only, and is not interested in “classical” subs any more (just like the Royal Navy, in fact)…

Note that a lot of the technology developped for France’s nuclear subs has been integrated into the Scorpene’s design…

exocet – I guess this is an obselete missile.

The Exocet has been regularly upgraded, I believe we are now at “Block 3” or something like that… It’s not more “obsolete” than a Harpoon missile, for example…

My favourite was the Grumman odd one out. There was the Wildcat, Hellcat and Tigercat. Clearly Avenger didn’t fit, so it had to be a Turkeycat.

And the Helldiver “SB2C”, with SB2C meaning “Son of a Bitch 2nd Class”, fact or fiction ? :diablo:

Not really. Strange that as it was prone to setting fire to the grass behind it on a wet start. That is, if you didn’t sit on the tailplane, tip it up and drain the excess.

In France it was licence-build under the Name “Mistral” and I heard it was sometime called “Le pi?ge” (“the trap”), but many aircrafts were referred to like that…

And the Dassault “Myst?re IV” was sometime called “Mis?re IV” (“Misery” IV)

The Dassault “Super Myst?re B2”, was simply referred as “SMB2”

And the mirage III and V were known as the “lampe ? souder” or “blow lamp” or “blow torch”, due to the afterburner, I think …

‘Flying Coffiin’ was used for several a/c, but specifically for the Starfighter, due to its ability to drop out of the sky…..

    DS

Wasn’t it “Widow Maker” for the F-104 Starfighter ?

And of course we have the “Hun” for the F-100 Super-Sabre.
