*The frenchies are saying they actually won against the 22 and typhoon

    Err… no! Correction:

For what I heard, the French said they actually won repeatedly against the typhoon, but they haven’t said they won against the F-22.

They merely said they fought in limited WVR combat (no BWR) and that the F-22 got a Rafale in the crosshairs (i.e. WVR) only once.

The French source, as far as I know, hasn’t stated that any F-22 had been shot by a Rafale. My bet is that the outcome has been of 1-0 in favour of the F-22…

    I suspect it’s about Mirage F1, not Rafale F1…

Then I doubt it too. Most Mirage F-1, whatever their current operator, are well likely to be totally worn out. And it is impossible to retrofit an airframe indefinitely, no matter how good are the new equipments…

A nice Dassault test pilot interview at Dubai by Flightglobal.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEH2BsdiX_E

I think it is this pilot who flew phil collins from the back seat (remember the recent rafale flight report)

What the heck is the aircraft seen at 0:08″ ???

Er… Ok… and what NAVY or other “modern” service has tailwheel trainers?

Why again waste millions in a complete redesign of a single engine tail dragger plane when theres already turboprop trainers in service with a nosewheel at the front?

All that extra training at simple take of and landings for pilots who have probably never ridden in a tail dragger… Im sure they would appreciate that…

Then why not reuse the breguet Aliz?’s design with a bigger tuboprop ?

    After all:

-It had been designed as an attack carrier-based aircraft, before being re-used for ASW…
-It has the range, the payload and the possibility to embark 2 to 3 crewmen.

Just kidding, of course but stil…

There are many point of views about what performance criteria should be. Some people focus one one to say “X” or “Y” is the best. But you have to look at the wider picture to be relevant. Some people favourable to the NG will of course stress its strong points like costs. And those favourable to the rafale will advertise for the necessity of two engines, the punch etc…For the moment I have never heard about FAB preference. And we have to be cautious when we say FAB because it can mean “two or three people paid by the competition” to argue against the favourite aircraft in the tender.

Okay, I see. Thanks for the clearing. And thaks to TGIF, too… 🙂

There’s one thing I don’t understand: I was under the impression that the FAB was looking more for a twin-engined aircraft, because of the long flying duration over the Amazon, and the need for better safety in case of engine failure…

So, I’m a bit surprised the single-engine Gripen is still considered. Can somebody enlight me, please ?
