    Hi Guys

    Well said XL569

Firebird I fear that if the worst happens the aircraft will never fly out of Lyneham as once administrators are involved dealing with creditors etc. the time to the P to F expiring will have long passed.
This would leave us as Firebird says with the aircraft out in the open grounded at Lyneham with the aircraft only moveable in pieces.
Awful prospect but I think thats where we are.
I understand the frustrations but what a tragedy it would then be because I cannot think of a museum that might want/need a vulcan being able to move it and what does that leave?I know what people on here say about tvoc threatening to scrap her but the real prospect is that in three weeks it will be out of there hands
I for one hope they again manage the impossible as XH569 says next years work should not be as drastic.

Heres hoping I’m a miserable doom monger

    The Strathallan Collection

    Hi Guys

My sister and her husband work for Lord Strathallan and to be honest I’ve no axe to grind here. All I will say is there are a lot of vintage aircraft surviving today that would not be without his input.Grace Spit.
Weeks Mosquito nobody in this country could afford/had the will to keep that here then. I stand corrected if Mr Weeks came in with a silly price.
How many others though Lysander Anson?
Waiting to be shot down but as somebody said earlier who was willing to transport a Shack in those days or even today.

    Best Regards

    Respect for that Twin Pin

But obviously at the time nobody fancied it and to criticise the Strathallan collection for aircraft being lost seems somewhat harsh.

Respect for Newark and hope to call on way on way down or back from Waddo

It’s easy to criticise 20 – 30 years on and/or with a big dollop of hindsight.

I think it was chopped (plus the Comet) when Strathallan closed down and nobody was prepared to take on moving them by road. Today it seems readily acceptable to cut a large aircraft to transport and then stitch it back together at it’s new home. I’m not critiscising but (in the UK) such operations are fairly new and I doubt it would have been considered when Strathallan closed.

IIRC the Mk.1 (T.4?) was at Farnborough due for the chop. Friend John Berkeley (at that time Chairman of MAM) played a part in getting the machine to Strathallan – saving(delaying) it from the axe.

This kind of thing has happened many times before – sometimes a long-term success, sometimes, regretably, not. Some in the latter category where large aircraft have flown to a Museum to be chopped later: Beverley at Hendon, Convair at Duxford, Vulcan B.1 and (more recently) various airliners at Cosford, etc.

    Roger Smith.

This is what I was referring to Gents

    Hi Twin Pin
What year was it when you were up there were the Shacks still operating from Lossie? That would make a difference to peoples attitude seen on youtube video of Shackleton displaying there must be eighties.

The current donations and pledges add up to just over 328000 as at 1633 today. this is against a target of 500000 by the 28th thereafter another 300000 by the end of march which adds up to 800000
