Compared to China’s KS-1A it’s rather short ranged. The KS-1A weighs 900kg and has a range of 42kms and ceiling of 27kms.

The original KS-1 has a range of 42km and has been around for 15 years. The improved KS-1A has a range of 50km. Max altitude is 27km. 100kg warhead. Speed 1200 meters per second. Malaysia is the first export customer for the KS-1A.

The Akash has only half the speed, half the range, half the warhead weight, but is almost as big as the KS-1A.

Is the Akash a copy of the Russian SA-6?

The WS-10A is to be introduced on the J-11 first because its a new engine and you want to use a twin engine fighter like the J-11 for safety reasons. This order for 250 AL-31FNs is no surprise because the J-10 is in production and plenty of engines are needed.

China has now ordered more than 300 AL-31FN engines for J-10s. But there are retards who insist the J-10 is not real.

How many A-50s does China operate and what is the PLAAF’s opinion of the AWACs, the IAF returned them when it leased them saying that they were not satisfactory.

That is not a Russian A-50 AWACS. China is using modified IL-76 airframes to carry a Chinese AWACS system. The IL-76s are bought from Russia but the AWACS systems are Chinese. This Chinese AWACS is called the KJ-2000. China currently has 2 such AWACS flying and more such AWACS are being built.

The civilian contracts are spilling over to the military. Along the way, Boeing is going to lose its number one position in China as well as permanently losing that position worldwide.

China is involved in the Boeing 7E7 program as well. China is building composite parts for the 7E7 airliner. But Airbus is going further and is inviting China to participate in the design of the A350.

    http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2004-12/10/content_2319868.htm

BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhuanet) — Chinese companies will take 5 percent of the work on Airbus’s A350 program, said Gustav Humbert, Airbus Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Programs.

“Based on the A330, the A350 will have new wings and engines, offer a greater range, and have lower seat-mile costs. This means that we will be offering the Chinese industry a risk sharing participation in the design and the manufacture of the A350 program,” said Humbert.

“The potential collaboration with China on the A350 program is immediate. It is a very timely stepping stone to the full risk sharing participation of at least 10 percent in a long-term future program of Airbus,” he added.

    thats something which India Lacks.

Each 094 SSBN carries 16 JL-2 SLBMs. The JL-2 SLBM is estimated to have a range of 8000-12000km with each missile carrying 4-6 MIRV nuclear warheads. Very few countries have the technology to build something like the 094.

The first 094 SSBN has been launched. China is supposed to have also launched two 093 SSNs earlier on. The 093 SSNs have been going through sea trials and might soon be ready for mass production. 093 SSNs will probably be armed with Hongniao long range cruise missiles.

Each 094 SSBN will be armed with sixteen JL-2 SLBMs. The JL-2 SLBM is based on the DF-31 ICBM. The JL-2 SLBM is extimated to have a range of 8000-12000km and carries 4-6 MIRV nuclear warheads.

China has recently launched three new types of submarines. The 093 SSN, the 094 SSBN and the Yuan SSK that may be equipped with AIP technology.

Does anyone know? Which Russian fighter engines have single-crystal engine blades?

I agree. The LCA looks like a 1970s French design. Was France involved in the LCA project?

There is a lot of overcapacity in China’s aircraft factories. That’s why today you still see new variants of old designs like the Q-5. But these are not major programs. While you may see a lot of different aircraft programs in China, only a small number are major programs. The rest are just minor programs.

China has only 3 major fighter programs. These are the J-10, J-11 and J-12.

    China tests extended-range cruise missile
    David C Isby
China may have conducted successful tests of a new long-range strategic cruise missile in September 2004, writes David C Isby. According to Hong Kong news reports, a test was witnessed by the vice-chairman of the Central Military Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, General Cao Gangchuan.
Designated the Hongnaio 2000 or Conghai-10, the new cruise missile is believed to be suitable for aircraft or submarine launch. It is understood to be a development of the Hongnaio III, which is thought to have entered limited service in 1998. A maximum range of 4,000 km has been claimed for the new missile – a significant improvement over the 3,000 km reported for the Hongnaio III.
Mid-course guidance is believed to be the same combination of map correlation and Global Positioning System (GPS) as is used on the earlier missile, while the active-radar terminal homing seeker is similar to that used on the YJ-83 anti-ship cruise missile. The new missile is said to incorporate unspecified stealth technology. Like the Hongnaio III, it can cruise at an altitude of 10 m.

I think Jane’s is actually talking about 2 different missiles. China’s cruise missile program has 4 different missiles with the following estimates:

    Hongniao I – 600km range, 10m CEP, in service
Hongniao II – 1500km range, 5m CEP, in service
Hongniao III – 3000km range, 5m CEP, may be in limited service
Hongniao 2000 – 4000km range, ?CEP, in development

The Hongniao 2000 is an accurate, stealthy cruise missile with 4000km range and possibly better than 5m CEP. It can be launched from aircraft and submarines.

China’s existing Flanker orders total approximately 400. Currently China already has approximately 300 Flankers. The remaining 100 Flankers will be built over the next several years. Even if China does not place any new Flanker orders, based on current contracts alone China will have approximately 400 Flankers in a few years’ time.

China may decide that 400 Flankers is enough and concentrate on upgrading these 400 Flankers.

China is concentrating on building J-10s, J-11s and AWACs.

The problem with some of these Western reports on China is that they rely on Russian sources. The Chinese refuse to talk, so these Western journalists go to the Russians for information and the Russians give them wrong information.

The Russians know very little about what China is doing. But the Russians pretend to know a lot about China and they give Western journalists wrong information. Some Russian sources will even tell lies about China.

This Chinese AWACs being referred to is the KJ-2000 AWACs system. 2 such AWACs have been built and more are being built. China is also developing a balance beam type AWACs mounted on Y-8 aircraft. China is equipping its fighters with data linking.

Chinese AWACs will coordinate J-10s and J-11s for air superiority. Chinese AWACs will also be very valuable for coordinating long range naval strikes.

    China tests radar surveillance aircraft

Beijing, China, Nov. 13 (UPI) — The Chinese military has said it developed a radar surveillance aircraft and has been testing the first models for deployment in the Taiwan Strait.

The Chinese airborne warning and control system, known as AWACS, uses advanced radar systems mounted on a Russian-made Il-76 transport aircraft, the Washington Post reported Saturday.

Chinese analysts have said the AWACS are a pivotal step in the government’s campaign to develop the strong military necessary to reunite Taiwan with the mainland by force, if it comes to that.

Electronic weaponry has, in recent years, been a major focus of China’s military upgrades. China’s military sees AWACS as an important tool for air superiority over the 100-mile strait between Taiwan and the mainland.

China’s military has been attempting to create AWACS-type equipment since the United States pressured Israel to back out of a $1 billion agreement to sell China four of its Phalcon phased-array radar systems in 2000.

These Russian sources are contradicting themselves. Some Russian sources like to pretend that they are more involved in Chinese defense projects than they really are. And some Russian sources like to pretend that they know more about Chinese defense industries then they really do.

The fact is the Russians don’t really know all that much about what China is doing. That’s why Russian sources keep contradicting themselves. Because they don’t know what is going on in China. And Russian companies like NIIP and IAPO are increasingly being shut out of China.

The SD-10 is a Chinese missile and has nothing to do with the R-77. And J-11 production will continue, but in an upgraded version. Based on current existing orders China will soon have approximately 400 Flankers. China will upgrade all its Flankers. The question is what technologies China will use for these upgrades.

And China wants to upgrade its Flankers to fire SD-10 BVR missiles. R-77s are not good enough to deal with Taiwanese fighters armed with AIM-120Cs.
