Wildcat AH1 will also have option of 7.62mm or 12.7mm mg. Planned roles are utility, recon, casualty evacuation, CP, logistic and troop transport. There are no plans for missiles. Roles are recon and light lift.
Maybe not the AH1 but FASGW(heavy) and FASGW(Light) Certainly are planned for the RN’s Wildcats.
Swerve, I being stupid, but are you saying BAE are being dumb for merging?
How would you play it? It is very complicated I hope you agree.
He’s saying they were dumb for selling their EADS stake (for peanuts) in the first place.
Well i can see why you interpreted my hasty post that way.
Let’s just say that if the mega company gets enough momentum behind it from say two countries (who are more motivated to develop leading edge technology), it could develop a project which other European countries could buy into at a later date.
It also means that the European defence industry is in a genuine position to compete on a global scale, rather than fighting each other.
How does Dassault fit into this picture?
Righto, that sounds a bit more reasonable.
Are the Germans even thinking about the next generation yet?
You have to say that if EADS and BAE become BEADS then they can produce a product and governments can choose to opt in as and when they want it.
That might require the new company to decide on a product that they think might sell and stump up their own development money for it without a guarantee of a customer.
I can’t see that happening.
The bloke that wrote that article thinks surface ships, inlcuding aircraft carriers are obsolete because big missiles exist. Navies of the future will apparently only consist of nuclear submarines armed with cruise and ballistic missiles.
Idiot.
Nice article to be found here, reveals some interesting info about compueter systems that haven’t been mentioned elsewhere (I think).
5. It shall be a cheaper and quicker choice than developing a new derivative of Storm Shadow with increasing range.
Team Complex Weapons/MBDA are already working on an improved Storm Shadow, JASSM-ER has slim to zero chance of ever being bought by UK MOD.
Someone beat me to it.
A bit like the MBDA Spear 3 weapon proposed for the F35 then?
I’m pretty sure Spear 3 no longer looks like that.
Saw a Typhoon over Hertford at around that time.
refurbished/secondhand p-3s have done the germans well- they are still flying them too. i just think the nimrod was past its use by
Replace old aircraft with older ones that aren’t as good, that makes a great deal of sense.
I think that Aardvark’s point – which I agree with – is that the Comet airframe should never have been considered for the job.
Possibly, I think more to the point was that the existing MR2 frames certainly shouldn’t have been, afterall it was never a refurb job, it was a complete rebuild with extensive modifications.
And let’s be honest you can’t say it was all down to the RAF either, BAE certainly can’t be absolved from blame.
how many billions wasted? how many off the shelf aircraft could you of had?
There were no off-the-shelf aircraft available at the time except refurbished P3s.
Is there any report or info suggesting USN has looked at, considered or even tested Oto 76 compact SR with Davide/Strales?
Is there any known official comparison of the 57 mk 2 or 3 and equivalent Oto 76mm?
Most navies use the Oto primarily as AAA IIRC
I’m sure I read on one forum about some sort of comparison being done at one stage, with the result being that there wasn’t much between them, with one having a harder punch but the other having a higher rate of fire, but I can’t remember who conducted the study or how comprehensive it was.
Apparently even a small weight addition would cause concern about stability thanks to the aluminium hull and superstructure. Same reason why it’ll never carry Harpoons.
Great design choice, eh?:D
I may be reading those links wrong but I believe Wanshan’s surprise is more to do with the Oto 75mm weighing less than the Mark 3.
