With the increasing popularity of the Schiebel S-100 (Germany ordered, the French looking at it) I could see them and a few other getting the LMM to go with it

    😎

Looks just about the perfect platform for it.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the rest of the european nations that signed up to the anti-cluster bomb treaty last year showed some interest in the Brimstone successor.

I would expect interest in LMM from anyone that is involved in UAV developments right now.

    Time will tell.

Some cheap freefall bombs would be nice, maybe that’s too much to ask for.

Wonder if this refers to the first of Russia’s new ‘aircraft carriers’?

Wasn’t there talk of a folding UAV in a retractable mast?

    From Wiki:

A 30 mm auto-cannon called Muräne (moray) to support diver operations or to give warning shots is being considered too. The cannon, probably a version of the RMK30 built by Rheinmetall, will be stored in a retractable mast and can be fired without the boat emerging. The mast will also be designed to contain three Aladin UAVs for reconnaissance missions. This mast is likely to be mounted on the 2nd batch of Type 212 submarines for the German Navy.

This still on the cards or has the idea been bined?

I like the idea of the gun and IDAS too, although more for engaging small boats than shooting down aircraft.

Very true. The A-Darter of course having TVC.

The sources are official. Denel Dynamics CEO Jan Wessels has publically announced that A-Darter has already been tested at 80g’s, with the goal being somewhere between 90 to 100g’s.

    Pretty hot stuff.

Are there advanced editions of ASRAAM and IRIS-T in the pipeline?

ASRAAM is due to be replaced starting around the end of the next decade with CAMM

UK approves Puma upgrade as helicopter debate rages on

A more than £300 million ($494 million) programme to equip the Puma fleet with new engines and avionics is to proceed, with the MoD having decided that “it is not feasible to advance the purchase of the [replacement] Future Medium Helicopter” instead at this time. The latter procurement is now expected to deliver new aircraft to replace its upgraded Puma HC2s from 2022, and RAF and Royal Navy Westland Sea Kings by 2017.[/url]

Good money thrown after bad 😡

I read somewhere that 95% of the population would be willing to use at least a tactical weapon on the Big Brother house.

I don’t recall taking part in that survey but I’d certainly be willing for a small one to be used.

Brown says we have enough helicopters….? Same Brown who said the UK will lead world in economic recovery? Same Brown who said the UK was well placed to weather the financial storm? Same Brown whose cabinet collegue said we could go to Helmand and not fire a shot? Same Brown who said the NHS and the UK is the best placed nation to deal with swine flu? The same Brown who said he wanted a new more honest and open politics?

The man’s mouth moves but nothing comes out.

I’m sure we could be here adding to this list for the rest of the day with a little thought.

looks like one of the plans here has been adopted with C1 and C2 useing the same hull and very similar equimpment fits 48 VLS and radar fit 155mm gun on the same displacement. the C2 seems to have Rafeal protector UUV on the deck behind the flight deck.

The Forward superstructure is looks the same as well

You sure? those angles below the bridge look pretty different to me, maybe its just the pictures themselves. I don’t think any of this is set in stone yet, just guidelines.

That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re vague, it could just point to the line of thinking that the same hull type will be used with a different equipment set. I’m all for it, although i’d still like to see the T45 hull used for C1 to save on design costs.

True it doesn’t but the fact that neither of them have a fixed design and the concept pictures are completely different while displacement and dimensions are the same suggest to me that something isn’t quite on the money.

Just had this little gem of a PDF pointed out to me by Mr Sunk on Warships1, lots of very useful information about FSC from pages 59 onwards suggesting that design proposals are firming up a bit although its obvious that the dimensions and displacements figures for the C1 and C2 indicative designs are only vague (they’re both the same):

In officially confirming the MoD’s commitment to the Puma upgrade, Ainsworth said: “It is not feasible to advance the purchase of the Future Medium Helicopter and forego the Puma Life Extension Programme.” This upgrade will include new engines, cockpit and avionics worth more than GBP300 million.

Sounds like a big fat waste of money, how much does a Merlin cost?

A SDR in the last chance the armed forces have to prevent them reaching critical mass where they cannot train or support operations effectively through lack of men and equipment and we will be forced in to the 2nd division or worse. I hope the SDR produces realistic results but I fear 1997 all over again. To work funds will have to be diverted from Health and Education and I cannot see that happening.

The only budgets the Tories have committed to ring fence are Health and Overseas aid:confused:
