Tiger Moth around 11am today heading towards east against a very strong head wind. Going very slowly 😎

No, no. That’s the FLYING FINN 😀
There was an aircraft carrier being built but it was never completed, or at least never made it into service. After the war it was transferred to the Russians who I believe used it for target practice.
The name Graf Zeppelin springs to mind
There was even a Bf109 variant developed for it, the T which was based on the Bf109E.

Looks like a Spitfire without cannon armament making it a Mk I, II or possibly one of the V’s without cannon’s. Also looks like the lighter underside colour putting it in the period 1940/41.
Any writing on the back?

Found ’em.
Weeks Mozzie at Biggin, and RR299 in the Bomber Collection. As some may have guessed, PA474 wasn’t in the formation, but it is in the pic!
Suspects –
Ground THT Avenger, BBMF Lanc.
Air B-25 (Grumpy? Duke of Brabant?) Sally B, Plane Sailing Cat, B-24 Diamond Lil and Mozzie RR299 in front centre. Not an earth shattering pic, but it does prove the Biggin event.
Ant says 1992 here
That was the first air fair I ever went to (aged 8) and I do not remember the large flypast at all. Just the earthquake when XH558 took off 😉

Would it be feasible to fit a white smoke cannister to the area where the rocket tail pipe would be? Or would the slower speed of the glider spoil the effect?

Excellent post, shows just how dedicated the support staff are. Unsung hereos if ever there were any 🙂

I would say a MkIXC (going by the cannon stubs) perhaps? Sans cannons – maybe a hack?
I’d go along with that idea, especially as it isn’t in camouflage.

The Hood and Bismark were both filmed on the same expedition and the results appeared on Channel 4 as well as in a book to accompany the program. All the pictures were taken using cameras mounted on a ROV, no manned submersibles were sent down.

What is the difference between a scrapyard and a museum… and visa-versa?
To be a museum the airframe must have a dusty sign in front of it explaining what it is 😀

Thought you might be interested to see this article, it appeared in todays Kent on Sunday free newspaper 🙂

BM597 was scheduled to display at Leeds Castle in Kent last night so it was probably that over Essex.

I don’t mind aircraft being suspended in realistic flying positions and when there is a gallery where you can still get close to them. But what they have done there with the Lightning and the F86 (correct ?) is bordering on the rediculous! 🙁

The Supermarine S6B is oftem climbed on, and last time I was there there was a kid hanging from the nose wheel leg of the P1127!
Its the same in the railway section, when I visited my classmates were amazed that they could touch the original ‘Rocket’. Obviously the Science Museum is taking the new ‘Hands On’ experience to every exhibit!
Dread to think what damage this might be causing to historic airframes like the S6B.

That Avro York looks very good, well worth all those years of effort 🙂
