I found these on the UKAR forum, which may explain why this situation came about:

Is she going back to Brunty or is it straight to Fairford from Waddington?
Supposed to be flying two practice displays at Waddington tomorrow in order to get two more pilots with a DA.

Reading on another forum that it was an alternator fault after engine start-up.

Sorry about the quality, taken on a mobile phone
1700 hours Friday at Biggin
When I first saw that photograph I wondered where it was parked up, but having just been up to the ‘Bump’ I now realise it is just south of the control tower. I can only assume they’ve kept it out of the public eye this weekend to allow the crew some rest.

If it hadn’t been for my Dad spotting a leak on a water main on the S bends near Keston then you would have had even longer tail backs. He got a team out fixing it that Friday afternoon and evening so that the road would be open for the traffic on Saturday morning!
I must admit that the number of cars parking on the roads outside the airfield was really bad this year – I drove through as the BBMF were displaying on Sunday at 2pm (on the way back from racing at Tonbridge) and it was difficult to get through in places. Very little police present, in fact it was two motor bikes and a patrol car! There were also people still going into the airfield at that point.

A ton of stuff related to Biggin Hill:
– BBMF displaying over the airfield as we passed on our way home from Tonbridge
– DC6 flying past us near home
– Breitling display team seen during a high pass
– Role demo F3s, GR4s and E-3 passing over our house in a variety of different formations and speeds (was pretty good listening to radio chatter – ‘Bandit at 10 o’clock’ ‘Tally ho’ !)

Popped up there this evening – not a lot to see as the static park has now been moved to areas which are easier to access for spectators.
A few pictures taken in the gloom 😉

One from either Wednesday or Thursday (I seem to have lost track of time somewhere – think it was Wednesday though), a de Havilland Rapide flying over the Isle of Dogs before heading across south London parallel to Tower Bridge section of the Thames.
Lovely growl from the engines made everybody look up 😀

Dan
p.s. lovely pictures Janie – I can see my office at South Quay Plaza there!
I will echo the previous comments – another excellent addition to my library, with lots of useful information. Thanks Fluffy! 😀

A Chinook following the Thames around the Isle of Dogs today around 1:15pm, then a pair of Pumas going in the opposite direction (towards central London) around 4:55pm 🙂
