Taiwan maintains that size of a fleet and air force because they have China literally on their doorstep who are pretty keen on reunification, and when China feels they are ready to take Taiwan well I doubt anyone will get in their way. At the end of the day is the US really going to risk armagedeon to defend Taiwan.
But yeah Australia needs to balance it’s fleet, more hulls in the water, one ship can’t be in two places at the same time.

What’s my prize ?
An Exocet?! Please!
Yes or equivalent weapon. I didn’t say destroy the carrier , I was replying to the question which was regarding a mission kill. My understanding of mission kill is to remove the assets capability to fight. So yes if a weapon(insert whichever conventional weapon that goes bang here) where to hit the ship at a critical spot such as my example, the rear deck where the arresting gear is located, it would prevent the ship recovering its aircraft which would render the ship useless until repairs could be made. Unless you are suggesting you can land aircraft with severe damage to the deck minus the arresting gear or that the missile would bounce of the deck and harmlessly splash into the ocean. What is so incomprehensible about this?
What conventional weapons are out there that a single hit makes a mission kill for a super-carrier?
If for instance an exocet or equivalent missile were to hit a key area of the carrier such as the rear where the arresting gear is located and blows a big chunk out of the deck ,well you can’t land your Super Hornets or F35s and your carrier is useless. The same as hitting a runway on a land base. Game over.
The Prometheus ship from stargate is more likely to be real than this piece of plastic.
Why do the Iranians even bother building a mock up which is clearly not an actual jet, are they not embarrassed what so ever? What do they hope to achieve?
Totally disagree Nils!
I don’t see the point of cluttering the forum with multiple one point threads!
If I want to make a single point about an article then I will post it here! If it is worthy of more then I am happy to take it to a new thread! There is no forum rule outside of forum etiquette to start long discussions in any thread even if it has news in the name.
I agree it is rude to high-jack any thread but it bugs me when I am asked to do something which is not against forum rules.
Well of the previous 19 posts in this thread, 5 of them are reporting news so 14 is a bit higher than the 1 you mention. The forum is cluttered with j-2030 hotdog burrito spaghetti Telly tubby threads as it is, so if we start even a news discussion thread separate from this to debate/ talk about whatever news and leave this thread the way it is. I know it’s not in the rules but it’s nice to log on and just know you’ll be reading news reports and not some nonsense, which im sure you agree alot of the threads often devolve into.
really?
Hmmmmm……..I’m drooling here, which was probably their plan the whole time, leave your enemy drooling, I mean who could actually fire a shot at this assembly of mean machine’s!?
