But despite the lack of funds- the purchase of three RC135 is about to go ahead again, along with modifying to the ‘british’ requirement- then we’ll be out of Afghan pre-delivery. Oh yes-joined up thinking is the phrase.
You are forgetting that the current Nimrod R.1s will still be operational. The two current R.1s will be retired when the RC-135s are delivered. There will be no airborne SIGINT capability gap. The RC-135s are not being modified to a UK fit. Incidentally the newest USAF RC-135 airframe was only delivered to the USAF in 2006. (Conversion from C-135).
The maintaining of an airborne SIGINT capability shows how valued the asset is.

That’s what I was wondering!
The B-45s are back! Noted on a mission this week! 😉

Two Russian Tu-95MS Bear strategic bombers have successfully carried out a
routine patrol flight over the Arctic Ocean, the Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
“Two turboprop Tu-95 MS bombers, which took off from Engels Airbase, have successfully
completed air patrol tasks,” Lt. Col. Vladimir Drik said.
The bombers spent about 14 hours in the air and were shadowed by six NATO aircraft
– four F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters from the Norwegian Air Force and
two B-45 Tornado strategic bombers from Britain’s Air Force.
All flights by Russian aircraft are performed in strict compliance with international law on the
use of airspace over neutral waters, without intruding the airspace of other states.
Russia resumed strategic bomber patrol flights over the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic oceans
in August 2007, following an order from then-president Vladimir Putin.
The Arctic territories, believed to hold vast untapped oil and gas reserves, have increasingly
been at the center of disputes between the United States, Russia, Canada, Norway, and
Denmark as rising temperatures lead to a reduction in sea ice.

Isn’t there two VC10’s slated for disposal to Bruntingthorpe in March/April?
XR807 and XR808 are the two VC10s. There are rumours that one will go to Cosford for display.

No problem, Beermat. I enjoyed it too! Nice to see that there is going to be another series.Â

Russian MiG-31 shot down another Russian MiG-31. Unauthorised launch of R-33.
https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/russian-mig-31-shot-down-another-russian-mig-31/
The second R-73 was just the seeker. the rest of it was gone. And the area where the R-73 warhead is was completely missing.
That isn’t the case. The tail of the second R-73 is still on the pylon. It was never fired! This was covered in a reply to you earlier in the thread.
You can see the pylon still with the tail of the R-73 on it.

The above images and excellent analysis from the PK forum. The two R-73s are accounted for. The claim that it is just the seeker head of the second R-73 is just completely wrong! The pilot may have been preparing to fire an R-73 but he never got it off the launcher!
See from 10:38. Air Marshal SBP Sinha states that the MiG-21 pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman got an R-73 lock and fired a missile shooting down the F-16. How does he explain both R-73 remains being recovered from the MiG-21?
The Indians are doing themselves no favours here and it just seems to get worse. This stems from the part featured in photograph. No F-16 has that construction and it matches entirely with MiG-21.
Photographs of the recovered engine cowling of the F-16 downed in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir that were examined by IAF experts shows that it has nothing to do with Varthaman’s MiG-21-Bison, the officials added. While the photograph shows the recovered part without rivets, the MiG-21 engine cowling has rivets at multiple places, they said.

Pakistan, on its part, exhibited the wreckage that it claimed was a MiG 21 engine. However, after a close analysis of the photograph and by stripping down old MiG engines in the Pathankot base, the IAF submitted evidence to the government that the wreckage was not that of a MiG-21 but more likely of an F-16
It is just ridiculous that the claims are still being made that pieces of the MiG-21 wreckage are from an F-16!

This is certainly not a MiG-21 drop tank.
It is a fin less MiG-21 centre-line drop tank.
The Mystery of the Missing F-16
The person who made that video clearly hasn’t done his research. His analysis of the the fuel tank is just laughable. That is a fin less centre line tank from a MiG-21. No F-16 fuel tank looks like that!
The other part he is claiming is “unidentifiable” is also from a MiG-21. Again no F-16 is constructed like that.
Bellingcat covers it in the following article.
https://www.bellingcat.com/news/rest-of-world/2019/03/02/falcon-vs-bison-verifying-a-mig-21-wreck/
Some Indian TV presenters have been embarrassing themselves with this ridiculous claim that the wreckage shows F-16 parts.
Think about it? If any of this wreckage was F-16 then the Indian MoD/AF would have been all over it and producing a detailed press conference to claim their “F-16 kill”. They haven’t because even they can recognise MiG-21 parts!
Then we have videos from POK side that clearly states 2-3 pilots were seen in Air with parachutes.
You have to take such sightings in the context that the people witnessing them don’t have aviation knowledge. Yes no doubt they saw parachutes but did they have aircrew attached? In addition to ejection seat drogue chutes there is also the braking chute to take into consideration. You can see from the video the chute cable and packing housing bag but imagine the chute, or remains of it, streaming and billowing in the sky? To the average person watching it they would only think that a parachute would be associated with a person and not air frame associated.

See the tail of the MiG-21 at 1:54. You can see the braking chute cable and the chute housing.
There is a video of debris which included Drop Tank that does not belong to Bison.
I’ve seen this claim over the past few days. If you are referring to the following drop tank then it is simply a fin less centre-line tank as used on the MiG-21. What you see is the rear of the external fuel tank with the nipple/vent on the end. These tanks are fin less.
