Thanks
I suppose they wanted a mixed fleet of colour schemes. The protrusion is the turret for the LAIRCM (Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures). Apparently it uses the old turret of the DIRCM (Directional Infra Red Countermeasures).

The astrodome is on an old C-130K variant. The K models in RAF service go all the way back to the 1960s. All the other C-130s imaged are all C-130Js and don’t utilise the astrodome. I’ve never seen a J model with one fitted!
See thread on astrodome.

Thanks for the comments.
James,
The following thread has the details from LBS. I don’t know about any other role demo. Apparantly the Fleet Air Arm will be joining the role demo later in the season.

UNC,
Nikon D2X fitted with Nikon Nikkor 300mm f/2.8. Some of those were taken with a 1.4x teleconverter. Yes the cost is worth it. A prime lens will have the edge over a zoom. Some zooms are soft at the top end.

Nice find. Thanks.
The watermark on the video makes it pretty difficult to positively ID either type, in my view, although my impression of the first is that is is almost certainly a Su-27.
The video of the a/c in formation with the Gulfstream, and from which the still frame on this forum is taken, is still inconclusive, although it remains my view that it is most likely a MiG-29.
Hi Steve,
The video clearly show an Su-27. The footage at 1:08 shows a positive ID. I was trained in instant aircraft recognition via the Royal Observer Corps before joining the RAF. Nothing comes close to that flash of top surface. It is re-enforced by the stills captured from Tikaboo Peak.

Nice work, Hyperwarp!
If the flight sims guys take up the challenge then it might bring it all into perspective. I’ll pop a post up on an other forum and link it back.

No, I’m not an RAF photog.
Ben,
I didn’t see the Buchon as I left shortly after the Vulcan departed.

It still doesn’t sit right for an F-15. The giveaway to me is the engine spacing and the leading edge route extensions.
I’m sure someone can replicate the angle on a flight sim?!
Not from the same angle, but link to image of F-15s and MiG-29 in formation.

1MAN,
Iraq has arrested thousands of Iranian and Syrian nationals who were up to no good in Iraq. Syrian and Iranian envoys liase with the Iraqi government for the release of those Iranian and Syrian nationals. Are those Syrian and Iranian government envoys lying when they fight for the release of their detained nationals? The Iraqi’s process them and provide details of their detention to the various national envoys. You are showing complete naivety if you think all those arrested and detained have nothing to do with acts of violence in Iraq.
The Syrians also arrest and detain Arab and Muslim fighters heading into Iraq via Syria. Are you telling me that none of those arrested by the Syrians are Syrian nationals? Even the Syrian Army has suffered casualties in clashes with those fighters seeking to get into Iraq. Back in 2005 the Syrian Ambassador to the UN declared that 1200 fighters, many of them foreign nationals, were arrested at the Iraqi border. So, you naively still believe that not one Syrian fighter has been involved in the insurgency in Iraq. Not one? Not one Syrian national following his own beliefs has gone to Iraq to fight? It’s all just a huge big conspiracy to you 1MAN, isn’t it?

Well done, Gary. A real shame about the weather! Love the Spit and the slow shutter/panning work!

Come on 1MAN,
Not one Syrian or Iranian up to no good in Iraq since 2003? Either off their own back or working for their respective regimes? Think of how many insurgents have been killed in Iraq? Do you really believe that not one has been a Syrian national? Please!
In regards to Iran they have a vested interest to support and meddle in Iraq and especially in the southern border regions. To say that not one Iranian intelligence or Qods force has not been involved in direct support is really laughable. Of the hundreds of thousands of Iranian nationals who pilgrimage and cross into Iraq every year not one of them has been involved in an act of violence against troops of the ‘Great Satan’? Next you’ll be informing us that no Saudi’s came to fight either!

These links should help you out? There are free car parks in Coningsby village if you can’t find a parking spot down by the airfield. It would take you about 15-20 minutes to walk to the 08 end from the free car park opposite the Co-op food store.
