ASA Successfully Tests Parachute for Ares Rocket

NASA and industry engineers successfully completed the second drop test of a drogue parachute for the Ares I rocket. The test took place Feb. 28 at the U.S. Army’s Yuma Proving Ground near Yuma, Ariz.

The Ares I, the first launch vehicle in NASA’s Constellation Program, will send explorers to the International Space Station, the moon and beyond in coming decades. The drogue parachute is a vital element of the rocket’s deceleration system; it is designed to slow the rapid descent of the spent first-stage motor that will be jettisoned by the Ares I during its climb to space. The parachute will permit recovery of the reusable first-stage motor for use on future Ares I flights. The first-stage solid rocket motor will power the Ares I rocket for the first two minutes of launch.

The Russian Air Force (Voyenno-Vozdushnye Sily: VVS) has performed bomb-carrying trials with its Ilyushin Il-76 ‘Candid’ strategic transport aircraft, the
company announced on 30 January.

In the exercise, which took place in the Tver region of the country north of Moscow, an Il-76MD was fitted with P-50T practice bombs on four underwing
hardpoints.

According to Ilyushin, the modification is geared at enabling the aircraft to operate on unprepared and unfamiliar airfields behind enemy lines. The crews will first
visually inspect the airfield using flares, before dropping bombs ahead of landing with troops on board. “Bombing is performed at a speed of 500 km / h at altitudes of
500 to 1,000 m (1,650 ft to 3,280 ft),” a company statement said.

The Military Transport Aviation Command will train “more than 10 teams” in the capability, stationed in the Tver, Orenburg, Pskov, and Taganrog regions of Russia,
Ilyushin noted.

Apparently the UK garrison is expanding by 1,000 troopers due to this ‘false’ report. The MoD is taking it as truth.

I hardly think that the ramblings of a journalist is going to influence the UK MoD. You have to take into consideration the likes of the ending of ops in Afghanistan. Due to extensive ops in Iraq/Afghanistan the likes of the Falklands has obviously taken a back seat due to the low threat. It is only natural that MoD planners have turned their attention back to the likes of the Falklands and a chance to keep troops active with deployed training. The MoD has commented and apparently this is not an increase in the permanent garrison but a series of rotational deployments for short periods.

Even during 2004 the list of sites available to US Visiting Forces didn’t reach those figures. And no they haven’t increased since then.

The Republic of Ireland were also drawn into the criticism of the Tu-95 flights through busy airspace.

Mr Coveney last night told the Irish Independent: “What happened was two Russian planes, without filing any flight plan or giving any pre-notification, came into international airspace that is controlled by the IAA.

“It should not happen and it did. That is a very busy airspace – about 1,800 planes a day fly through that. The IAA did a really good job in managing it.”

Update on MH17 developments. Some parts of MH17 are to be recovered to the Netherlands.

The air safety inspectorate intends to reconstruct parts of the airliner in the Netherlands in order to ascertain the cause of the crash.

“The crash area is large, so we do not intend to recover all the wreckage,” said Safety Board spokesman Wim van der Weegen. “We’ve got a specific number of items we would like to recover.”

Around a dozen Dutch officials are on the site supervising the work of Ukrainian emergency services, including two Safety Board employees, van der Weegen said.

The board said the initial collection would take a few days depending on fighting and weather conditions, and that wreckage would first be stored near the crash site before being taken to the regional capital Kharkiv to be flown to the Netherlands.

for those people that are just trolling it clearly says in the video- whoever sent this image to us is clearly a professional because there is no way to prove that it is fake- they have tried. (they are not saying its 100% true) it supports all russian evidence to there being fighters in the air also all their evidence supports the claim that this is either a British spy satellite image or a US

This is where the claims was made that it came from Wikileaks. It shows you how desperate Ivan Andriyevsky and his Russian Union of Engineers team actually are. You applaud and fall for their ‘analysis’ but why didn’t they use their “professional” skills to check a map? The Boeing in the image isn’t even on the correct flight path. Remember the Russian Federation aviation experts contributed and agreed with the MH17 preliminary report on the route flown. So why didn’t Andrievsky check even the most basic of maps to see if this Boeing in the image was even over the town visible? Will he be claiming next that MH17 flew 13km further south than the official and verified flight route?;)

Without taking any sides in this new debate, I just want to point out that this superposition is not exact. There are minute differences in alignment of the control surfaces for example that a simple copy paste job wouldn’t have. On the other hand that on its own doesn’t mean the image is not a fake. At this stage it could be either

Incorrect. The image is definitely a fake. The Boeing is not even on the correct flight route. See following for details of the composite imagery that they used. Why on earth didn’t the Russian media check out the mapping imagery?

This so-called engineer definitely didn’t do any research into the image. 🙂

Ivan Adrievskiy, vice president of Russian Engineers Union, said: ‘We see a photograph taken from space from a low orbit. Usually such images are taken for the sake of general reconnaissance of the air and the ground.

‘The coordinates of the photograph mean we can suppose that the image was taken by an American or British satellite.

‘We have studied this picture in detail and did not find any sign proving it to be fake.’

His first port of call should have been the Boeing website. The Boeing 767 image used to represent the Boeing 777 MH17.
