By topography in the picture I can not imagine that this was Tu 16 Badger in Cairo West Air Base because the terrain of this base is very flat, this photo is probably from some other Air Base from Egypt.
Cairo West. Note revetment with damaged lip?
Look at the area in Google Earth and rotate to match the original picture.
Gerard,

I agree, Andy. At the moment it is just an interpretation until a copy of the code book is made public.
Has the D-Day pigeon riddle been cracked?
A coded message from the Second World War found tied to the remains of a carrier pigeon in a chimney contains details of German tank movements sent by a British soldier, a team of Canadian researchers believe.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/defence/9748484/Has-the-D-Day-pigeon-riddle-been-cracked.html
Gord Young, from Peterborough, in Ontario, says it took him 17 minutes to decypher the message after realising a code book he inherited was the key.
Mr Young says the 1944 note uses a simple World War I code to detail German troop positions in Normandy.
No problem, Charlie. Thanks for the reply.
Charlie,
There is only two versions because Pete has scanned and removed the joined up part for effect.
and by removing the joined up part, I reckon it could easily be a number 5.

Thanks Simon for clearing the envelope mystery up. I didn’t see your earlier post.
Why on earth would someone still be using old dialling codes if the letter originates from the 1980s? If someone was attempting to pass off a 1980s forgery then why would they use a code system that was defunct in the 1960s and use dates post death?
As already pointed out in this thread.
WEStern = Kensington Western part of central London
The new figure codes were in place by the mid-1960s and the code would have been 937.

Also take into account that Peter Wiener was an autograph collector and appeared to be actively collecting in the 1950 and 60s. The Bader letter claims to come with the original envelope addressed to Peter Wiener. The envelope would be the key to the mystery of the 1950s or 1980s dates. The stamp (s), address, zip codes, franking, etc would be the deciding factor in this case.
Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Bader.

Dear Mr Wiener……..indeed!
Peter Wiener appears to be an autograph and manuscript collector. The dates of his previous requests during the 1950 and 60s fits in with the Bader letter from the 1950s.
to Peter Wiener, stating that they are handling Christie’s correspondence while she is abroad and sending the autograph.

F-35 deal not cancelled, Tories insist. Update on the government’s plan to purchase new fighter jets expected next week
The Harper government says it has not made a decision on the F-35 as a replacement for Canada’s CF-18 fighter jets, but the government now appears to concede that alternative fighter purchase options will be considered.
The Prime Minister’s Office denied a media report Thursday that the F-35 purchase was dead, calling the report “inaccurate on a number of fronts” and promising to update the House of Commons on its seven-point plan to replace the jets before the House rises for the Christmas break at the end of next week.
That plan is now expected to involve a real competition.

I was under the impression that the Russians still had parts of Gary Powers’ U-2 wreckage, and that the Chinese/Vietmanese has wreckage of the Dragon Ladies they they shot down…
Correct. China, Cuba and Russia have U-2 wreckage as exhibits.

Hi Everybody!
Are there mission marks on the Canberra? If they are, where did it fly?
Sorry for not so perfect english:o
Thanks
Sanyi/Alex
Those appear to be the mission markings for Afghanistan or Iraq. 39 Squadron also have Battle Honours for Iraq 2003. Mission marks were also applied for African missions.

Hampden98,
Shot down by SA-3 Goa. An SA-3 was also responsible for damage to another F-117 during the conflict in 1999. The AAA theory was purely from the stills of the wreckage at the time. Many observers confused the SA-3 fragmentation warhead holes with what they thought were bullet holes. The 250th Air Defence Missile Brigade later confirmed that it was purely SA-3s that were used in the shootdown.
Pilot of the shot down F-117, Lt. Colonel Dale Zelko, describes the event in the following video.

A second film was released during 2012. See following link.

This following is the first documentary featuring Lt. Colonel Zoltan Dani. Unfortunately not in English, but contains video footage of the wreckage and the part that Lt Col Dani keeps in his garage (Part 4). Part 4 also contains the F-117 pilots account being translated to Zoltan Dani.

Another F-117 was damaged by an SA-3 Goa during 1999.
Jun 9, 1999 Operation Allied Force ended. More than 800 SAMs were fired at NATO aircraft, but only one F-117 and one F-16 were downed. Another F-117 suffered minor damage from a SA-3 that exploded nearby and two A-10s were damaged by anti-aircraft artillery fire. During the campaign, 35,219 sorties were flown, 16,587 non-precision guided missiles and 6,728 precision guided missiles (23,315) were dropped

I was doing some private research into Operation Allied Force and requested the serial of this combat damaged F-117 under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Five documents were retrieved during a 2011 search, but all are still classified.
Did anyone else want it? No, they did not.
The Italians also operated the Tornado ADV.

Wonder what the US would do if Iran sent drones 16 miles from US coast.
As long as the drone didn’t violate sovereign airspace then nothing. Monitor, shadow, intercept like any other foreign aircraft, vessel, etc to be identified.
Iran has been hinting recently that Iranian Navy vessels will deploy to the Atlantic. I would imagine that they would make a goodwill visit to Venezuela or Cuba? No doubt they will take the opportunity to transit close to the US in order to get the propaganda value? Perhaps fly a helicopter up to the territorial limit or maybe a UAV off the vessels?
Perhaps the USAF can send up an A-10 Thunderbolt to monitor the helo or UAV? Perhaps fire off a few rounds purely for demonstration purposes ๐
Iranโs Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari stated
that Iran planned to extend its presence in the international waters and added the Navy intended to deploy forces to the Atlantic Ocean.
