Any info/photos of the SEM’s flying off the CdG?

It’s probably pure BS, it’s was Galeb for pete’s sake!
Nic
I know, just wondering who started the rumours? These things tend to get out of hand, before you know it he’ll be the pilot that downed the F-15E?
One Rafale noted returning with one munition missing. Possibly the aircraft in question?

I was thinking it was to be able to fire a Mica IR with less CoG issues than using one of those on the wings. I think FOV would be even better on the wings than on the belly, unless they want to be able to fire one and retain both as sensors.

I’ve noticed on the web that there are some dodgy reports of 3 x air to air missiles being launched from the Rafale before the bomb strike. These dodgy reports are saying that the Galeb pilot evaded them. Are these coming from dodgy sites hinting that the pilot was a Serb mercenary?

“British Tornados have launched missiles against Gaddaffi’s miliatary vehicles”
I take it this would be Brimstone?
Yes. There was a video released at the Ministry of Defence briefing this afternoon. It featured Brimstone being used against tanks. I’m sure that it will be uploaded in the near future?

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I thought I saw pictures of those Mirages being loaded into a transport aircraft, I can’t remember where I saw them or the details though:confused:
Apparently just moved to another part of the airport? Video at following link.

So much for statement of “complete air superiority”. Also hope it wasn’t another rebel Flogger. Not being cynical…just looking at all scenario’s. Hope by now there is a coordination between “the rebels” and coalition air ops.
And lastly, hope beyond all measure that this wasn’t a friendly as IFF was always something I was concerned about with so many nationalities operating in that airspace especially over Misrata.
BTW…weren’t there a number of Libyan F-1’s which “defected” to Malta? Wonder if these have been re-armed and if those pilots who defected have gone back into action.
Now saying it was a Galeb.
The Coalition mentioned that the Libyan Air Force no longer existed as a fighting force. I don’t think the ability to get a Galeb off the ground constitutes a cohesive fighting force? I still think that the airfields have been suppressed rather than the runways destroyed? It is only going to hamper long term goals of humanitarian and relief aid if they have been torn up in the strikes.
Those two Mirage F.1s are going nowhere. Gadaffi has already asked for them back and he got nowhere. I can’t see Malta letting the Rebels get hold of them either. They will remain impounded. In years to come they will probably end up in the Malta Air Musuem?
TJ
Things like that happen from time to time.. even in Pennsylvania, why not in Libya? π
But three times in a row? :diablo: Venik will have some hard time explaining this π
Of course they do! No doubt you think that the wreckage found was planted? π

Venik is still trying to work out how the USAF managed to hide the loss of B-2 Spirit of Missouri? He still believes to this day that the Missouri wreck was recovered and underwent study at the VTI research facility.

From Al Jazerra.
5:05pm Western warplanes attacked a military aircraft belonging to Muammar Gaddafi’s armed forces that was flying towards the rebel-held city of Benghazi
Any confirmation of this from others sources? Aircraft type?

there were talks about an attack on a libyan aircraft. any info on that one?
That was covered in a briefing on March 22nd. The Coalition had no knowledge of the press rumours.

TRANSCRIPT: Update by Admiral Locklear, III, on Operation Odyssey Dawn
COL. LAPAN: Elisabeth.
Q: Two questions. When do you anticipate handing over command of this operation to the allies? And is it possible that you would assume command as under a NATO auspice?
And secondly, there’s been reports that there — that Gadhafi tried to put a plane in the sky, and that was shot down. Could you — do you know anything about that?
ADM. LOCKLEAR: Let me first talk about the transition of the coalition to another command and control structure. That also is something I’m not focusing on out here. I’ve got a — (laughter) — we’ve got a pretty busy plate. That’s things, I think, for political leadership to decide.
What I can assure you is that the coalition will be prepared to transition it to whatever command and control relationships as decided by the leadership of the nations involved. And we’ll ensure that there won’t be a break in the coverage or the break in the capabilities that we provide to enforce the Security Council resolution.
I have no knowledge of the second question about Gadhafi’s jet you’re talking about; been our stated policy that Gadhafi nor his family have been the — targeted in this case. I’m not focusing on whereabouts or the actions of Colonel Gadhafi. I’m focusing on the protection of civilians in Libya.

One that stood out was something called Chaos 11 or Kaos 11. Good deal of back and forth about this and controller mentioned few times about no radar signature. Eventually it ended but I was wondering from way conversation went if it might have involved an injured aircraft being vectored back to base. Anyone in aviation community able to comment on this?
Chaos 11 was picked up by the enthusiasts over on Fighter Control. You might have to join to see the log on their dedicated Malta ATC thread? They note Chaos 11 tanking and returning to Aviano. Chaos 11 could possibly have been the lead or wingman of the F-15E lost?
http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/
On the loss of the F-15E there was an account from a Libyan eye witness.
Mohammed Braik, the farmer in whose field the American F15 Strike Eagle came down. βIt caught fire but there was no shooting.β
βI saw it fall down by itself, and after hitting the ground it exploded,β said Mohammed Braik, the farmer in whose field the American F15 Strike Eagle came down. βIt caught fire but there was no shooting.β
Video interview at the following with Mohammed Braik. Obviously the translation states “two planes came together”. It probably requires an Arabic speaker to go over that to see if he meant a collision or that he just saw two planes?

Why do You think so ???
Surely you must know that you can’t question TC’s sources?

Oh another malfunction over a war zone. π
No doubt Tom Cooper on ACIG will have it being downed by a mercenary flown Libyan MiG-25? π
TJ
Nah, that one is a F-5 , from the Vietnam era, as the local western propaganda minister Mr. TEEJ said..
Meanwhile we are still waiting for the images of the one French and two Qatari aircraft claimed shot down by Libya? There was even a little Libyan boy featured in the press demanding to be taken to see the wreckage of these three aircraft. They must have completely ‘disappeared’ in the explosions as Venik claimed during Allied Force π
TJ
Interesting, any clue as to what type that was ?
Could have been a RQ-4 or U-2? The chaps over on Fighter Control forum have Forte 10 as an RQ-4B. Positive ident as the ATC controller asked for type.
TJ
EELightning,
I haven’t seen any images released by the Pentagon of runways bombed?Perhaps they are attempting to keep them intact for future humanitarian use? So far it appears that it is just the Hardened Aircraft Shelters that are being targeted.
TJ
that is good news. There’s not a lot to do in the A2A arena so this must involve the dropping of bombs!!
As already pointed out no evidence of that. All the footage from Italy show an air defence fit of 4 x AMRAAM and 4 x ASRAAM, two fuel tanks and nothing on the centre-line. All of the Typhoons are FGR4s, so there is the option for a mix if required.
I can’t see Libya attempting to launch any fixed wing missions, but they might consider operating helos?
