Thank you TEEJ for taking the time and trouble to post those links and this is appreciated.
……
… and sincere apologies for my error and I am glad to put that right.
No problem, Tony. Thanks for the apology.
Levsha,
Why not let TEEJ reply to my post….after all he was the one who, when I pressed him, categorically said there were no UK assets there ;- )
Yet again why are you so confused? Please link to the post in this thread where I stated that? Use the search within thread function in the drop down box on the right hand side.
Try a simple search for “reaper”
There was no debate or dispute in regards to UK Reaper between You and I. The UK MoD issued a statement shortly after the attack.
An MoD spokesman said: “We can confirm that the UK participated in the recent coalition airstrike in Syria, south of Deir ez-Zour on Saturday, and we are fully cooperating with the coalition investigation.
“The UK would not intentionally target Syrian military units. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage.”
https://twitter.com/DefenceHQ/status/777835504662446080
UK media at the time also released articles that referenced “RAF Reaper” and claims that they came from the MoD.
RAF Reaper drones were involved in the weekend airstrike that killed at least 62 Syrian government troops and threatened the fragile truce in the country, the Ministry of Defence has said.
An unspecified number of weapons were fired from the drones capable of firing 500lb laser guided bombs and Hellfire missiles, it added.
I said at the time the whole scene would have been lit up and be visible on screen for a UK drone operating there….I asked there were any UK assets there and you said at the time in reply to my specific question that there were none…..but today it was confirmed UK assets were there….were these Reapers TEEJ?
You seem very confused and mixed up, Tony? Perhaps instead of relying on faulty memory you could have quoted me making this statement in this thread? It would saved a lot of hassle as I didn’t say anything of the sort.
Your original post where you were confused about the identity of the air force operating the F-16s.
Thanks for that TEEJ…..do we have confirmation of the make-up of the actual strike package because it appears to have changed over time?
Some contend that was to deflect the heat off the Americans, but I’ll wait for the official investigation to conclude which I suppose isn’t likely to be anytime soon?
I thought it was the two USAF A-10s, two F-16s (take your pick from NATO partners) and a UK Reaper (which would have had a bird’s eye view)?
My reply
No problem, Tony. The Danes have already admitted to their F-16s taking part.
The UK Reaper involvement wasn’t disputed. The discussions between us was the confusion in reference to the nation operating the F-16s and the Australian assets.
An earlier reply in regards to RAF Reaper was that there was nothing unusual about a UK Reaper being over Syria and a link to its first strike use in Syria.
Discussion in reference to what Royal Australian Air Force types were involved?
All I can think of is that you got confused over other assets that I listed in reference to the possible Australian assets and their situational awareness.
TEEJ, anything to say about the E-7A Wedgetail AWAC that flew in support of the US bombing of the Syrian positions…..would it not have situational awareness and known that the the Syrian positions were being bombed?
The question is why are you so confused and mixed up? The thread has a “search thread” engine. Why couldn’t you have simply searched for “reaper” within the thread and saved yourself all this hassle?

6 Squadron did look at Jaguar Afghan ops.
… We looked very carefully at the option to go to Kandahar and it was possible. We could not have operated at the peak of the hottest days but we were only ever looked at to augment the JFH, not replace them, so that they could have a less punishing op cycle. The Harrier is an excellent CAS platform but we could have credibly relieved some of the burden.’
It appears that the earlier HF activity was Syria related. They have repeated the Atlantic/Gibraltar Strait route to fire cruise missiles over the Mediterranean.
Russia has deployed strategic bombers to launch strikes on Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and Al-Nusra Front targets in Syria, the Defense Ministry reported. The bombers flew from Russia for the mission, and fired cruise missiles while over the Mediterranean Sea.
With in-flight refueling on two occasions, the bombers covered a distance of some 11,000km (6,835 miles), flying over a northern sea route and the eastern Atlantic.

Update on the Russian HF activity. It doesn’t appear to be Syria related. RAF and Danish QRA were scrambled last night. Call signs and intercept have 3 Tu-95 Bear H and 3 IL-78 Midas North Sea and off Scotland.
No indication that this was a Gibraltar Strait/Syria mission as conducted by Tu-160s during November 2015.
Activity from 16th Nov 2016 on following link.
Busy on the Russian Strategic bomber HF Morse and Voice networks since 20 GMT on 16th November. Still active as of 08 GMT. Possibly Syria related?
Another gem by RT 🙂

The Russian military has launched a large-scale operation against terrorists stationed in Homs and Idlib provinces of Syria, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on Tuesday.
“Today at 10:30 and 11:00 we launched a large-scale operation against the positions of Islamic State and Al-Nusra [terrorist groups] in the provinces of Idlib and Homs,” Shoigu said at a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the top leadership of the Russian Armed Forces.
The ‘Admiral Kuznetsov’ aircraft carrier, the flagship of the Russian Navy, is also taking part, Shoigu said. This is the first time the ‘Admiral Kuznetsov’ has taken part in a military operation. Sukhoi Su-33 fighter jets have been launched from the deck of the carrier, the defense minister said.
Terrorist positions have been hit with cruise missiles from the frigate ‘Admiral Grigorovich’, Shoigu added.

@syrianmilitary I don’t understand why some take so much of their time to fake such photos
it’s just sad

That’s interesting! Seems they have repainted the deck during the cruise!:o
The process of painting the deck was noted during October 28th on a satellite image. Kuznetov was hove to re-fueling off Morocco.
