How about some ASIC codenames for the present PRC aircraft/helos?!

I retired from the military in Spring 2007. ASIC up to that point hadn’t issued codenames for any of the newly produced PRC aircraft/helos.

There are no longer NATO reporting names after 1992. The Cold War is over since two decades now.

Incorrect, Sens. ASCC (now ASIC) are still in the business for allocating codenames to both FSU/PRC aircraft/helos. Sens there have been several threads over the years on the subject. Where have you been?

    ………….

It will probably take a couple of years before ASIC codename the PAK-FA. They only meet in a conference about once year and sometimes there is a gap year. Each nation takes turns to host the conference.

I’m sure that hunter is on an RAF base somewhere simulating a Mig (looks rather like a Mig19). A good cost effect idea.

The Hunter was at RAF North Luffenham (now MOD North Luffenham). I believe it was used to represent a FITTER.

It has now been moved to Wattisham and is going to be restored.

I have seen photos of a British Vampire under evaluation by the Soviets! (where it was from I do not know!!)
I wonder if they were able to get their hands on the likes of a Hawker Hunter, Dassault Mirage III and Mirage F1 – (Mirage’s possibly from Libya?)

    Looks like another photoshop!

Are these the R1s that have recently retired? IIRC the last flight at Waddo was in October or November…

Difficult to keep current on those.:)

Only one of the R.1s has been retired. At least one of the remaining two has been recently noted flight testing/training in the UK.

    Another Su-27 video from Prides.
Here we see the jet doing 10.000f in 54 sek:)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRA0wczZS3U&feature=player_embedded#

On a side note here is a video of the rumoured US Su-27 back in 2003/2004:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3l08tgVSjIU&feature=player_embedded

Check aorund :01.08 .. is this a fake?

Not a fake. That segment of the video shows the instant recognition features of a Flanker. No other aircraft type gives that topside recogniton feature.

Probably a Belarus example acquired during the 1990s? Rumour has it that the US got their hands on two examples of the Flanker.

See post #12 on the following. Seen on board An-124 fuel-stopping in Scotland.

The person who filmed the video link that you posted has contributed on this forum. Ian ‘Growlerwaxer’ is a UK Civilian Air Traffic Controller who with a group of fellow ATC has made several visits to Tikaboo Peak.

Griffon39, Unfortunately I don’t speak Russian. Hopefully someone will be able to translate it.

Here’s a picture of an Iranian F-14A with USSR markings.

As already pointed out the image is fake. Original image.

It looks likely that this is the wreckage from the fourth flight over China in 1971.

The first D-21 flight over China in 1969 apparently ended up crashing in Russia.

    http://www.spyflight.co.uk/d21.htm

The Russians examined the wreckage which led to a design study of a clone named Voron. Ben Rich (Skunk Works) reported that he was given a piece of the crashed D-21 during a visit to Russia.

Correct. It does seem odd that they’d take them out of service when they are proving useful in Afghanistan, which is what the rebudgeting was mainly aimed at. I guess the new Reapers and Sentinels will will the gap there.

As for the others, I totally agree. I’m hoping we’re missing something, like they actually meant that they’re starting a drawdown from 2010 to 2012. Sorry that should have been hope (they don’t have a fade effect on the forum, shame).

    Shadow R.1s are also deployed.

Don’t believe them! It is time for the people of Norfolk to be told the truth! The F-15s were spraying the area with chemicals.

You couldn’t make it up if you tried!
